Sample dragged from the browser is automatially sliced...

Hey guys,

Noob question most likely, but I have to get these sorts of things sorted. I won X1 (yay) but never got it
hang of the workflow (boo), so never bothered, but kept on pumping cash in to all the new bells and
whistles (GAS). X2 dropped and I figured, time to give it another go, and this time I HAVE to make it
work, or that's the end of me and Sonar.

Right, so, my first problem: I drag a sample from the browser (single shot snare), and it plays
back weird and choppy... hmmm, wth?! Finally figured out that it's getting sliced / looped (auto grooveclip'd?
sorry, don't know Sonar's terminology yet). To come to that conclusion I double clicked the samples
title bar in the trackview. This then opens an edit type window with playback, loop functions etc. No matter what
I do, I can't remove the slice (I tried disabling slicing in the sample properties, dropped the threshold to 0 and
changed the little drop down list to "no slices")... seriously. What gives?!!? Also, after changing some of those
(like the drop down to "no slice" and threshold I specifically noticed), after some time they just magically decide
to go back to what their previous settings were (1/8 slice and 100% threshold for instance).

Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks,
George

try pressing ctrl+L while you have the sample selected (that disables Groove-Clip Looping for the clip)
or double click the clip, just as you did, and make sure the loop-button up to the left isn't activated

I tried clicking the loop button (as it's clearly on)... no way to turn it off. It just doesn't respond to clicks. I'll try the ctrl-L thing. Cheers.

Nope, ctrl-L does nothing... (and I know the samples are NOT pre-sliced, as it's wav samples I've created myself!). Double checked in other editors... there is no loop data, or any other additional date stored wit the wave. X2 is looping and slicing this sample (32bit, shouldn't make a difference though) with no way of turning it off. BTW, tested some of those samples in samplers, Reaper and FL Studio now (just to make sure there isn't something weird going on with the sampels). They work fine in ALL of them.

It does not sound like the audio is actually being sliced by the DAW. It does sound like you have a setup problem. If you supply information about your PC, audio interface, SONAR driver mode and latency settings the problem might be easier to spot.

    Hi Scook,

    My setup is as follows:
    PC: i7 2600 based PC
Interface: Edirol UA-25 (not Ex) with 9ms latency running in WDM / KS (can't seem to get ASIO to work in Sonar :| is spits out a popup box saying the UA-25 OUT is not available... and it clearly is and working fine in other DAWS).

EDIT: Just got ASIO to work for the first time o.0 Disabled "Smaller ASIO buffer" and "MIDI Light mode" in the ASIO driver... still didn't make a difference to the sample being sliced though, however, at least the ASIO driver's working now, so we're going in the right direction with something at least :D

What are the clip's properties in the Track Inspector?   You can switch to this using the tabs at the top of the TI.
