Lost the VS-700 Console Control Surface

I had it working but now it doesn't.  I was able to use the V-Studio 700 C to operate some basic functions on the Sonar X2a. For some reason, it isn't working anymore.  I've checked the Edit > Preferences > Control Surfaces and the VS-700 Console is no longer an option.  Does anybody have an idea how this could be revived?

Thanks in advance,

JE

    JE,
check if it's still properly hooked up and if it's listed and checked in prefs/MIDI/devices

Have you got the USB connect lit up on the 700R?

I've had the 700C disappear on very rare occasion and rebooting the surface after restarting X2 and then redoing it in the controller option from the prefs setting like Rob above refers to does the trick.

It is 99.9% of the time rock solid but if I do something whacky, it has the potential to get whacky mostly due to USB side of things.

You've probably got it sorted by now...
    Cheers.

What is your startup routine? In order to properly establish the 700C as the primary midi control surface, it must be on when you boot the PC-DAW. Are you 32 bit or 64 bit?
I find it necessary to turn on in this order to keep the V700R and V700C in control.
    1: Turn on V 700R
    2: Turn on V 700C
3: Boot the PC to the desk top
4:Turn on any other midi devices, such as keyboard controllers, drum machines etc.
I find if I don't do this, windows 7 picks up the first driver it finds in both the soundcard and midi controller. For instance, if the PCR 800 is turned on during boot up, the PC will pick it up first.
Make sure you enter the V 700C into the first slot in Midi Devices/Controllers. See if that works for you.

Funny - my startup sequence is 3 -2 - 1 - 4 (refering to above points) and it just works fine everytime - just make sure #4 is #4

Rob, "check if it's still properly hooked up and if it's listed and checked in prefs/MIDI/devices".

As far as I can tell, everything is hooked u properly.  It doesn't show in the preferences/MIDI devices.  It had before but now its not.

Mully, "Have you got the USB connect lit up on the 700R?'

Yes, the USB light is on and it is green.

"I've had the 700C disappear on very rare occasion and rebooting the surface after restarting X2 and then redoing it in the controller option from the prefs setting like Rob above refers to does the trick"

I've had that happen while using X1 and did the same.  I've tried that on several times with this X2 but the 700 Console doesn't appear as an option under "Control Surfaces" as it did in the past.

Crg, my startup routine is very similar to yours.  I have the 700C and 700R turned on prior to turning on the computer.  I also found, if I have my keyboard (MIDI controller) turned on prior to booting the computer, the computer will recognized it and it will show in the preferences.  I have found, if I don't do that, the MIDI keyboard will not show in the preferences for MIDI controllers.

I'm not sure what's happening there. Did you use the special cable to the V700R and then USB, or USB to the Console?

Well, I thought it was hooked up correctly according to what I read in the manual.  The outfit (the VS-700 set) came with a special USB which is plugged into the back of the 700R and routed to a USB port on my computer.

Well I know the special cable isn't USB, so if you have the units hooked together with that cable and then a USB  from the V700R to the PC , you are good. Did you move the USB cable to a different USB plug in the PC? At this point it's time to ask what you have checked in Midi Devices.

I don't know if I put the USB in the one I had before.  However, when it had been working, I did not change anything as far as the physical connections go.

MIDI Devices checked:  (Input) Yamaha MOTIF XS7-1, Fantom VS (VS700) and IO MIDI (VS-700).  I've tried to check IO (VS700) and hit "apply" but it will NOT remain checked.

OH!!!!  For some reason I did not see this option before:  CONSOLE (vs-700).  I don't know why as I had been looking for it.  But it is there now.  I checked it and it appeared as an option for Control Surfaces.  I checked it and now my VS-700 Console appears to be working.

Thank you very much.  You gave me something to check and I found the answer.  I've been spending A LOT of time trying to get this figured out.  Without that extra push, I might not have seen the answer.  (Maybe it had not been there before.  About an hour ago, I was on the phone with the guy who sold me the computer and we did another update to the OS.  Don't know if that was coincidental or not.  Either way, I am happy for your help as this is a major step in getting this thing working.  Hopefully, that'll be the last MAJOR hurdle.

I have to say, the VS-700 system and Sonar X1 was one of the toughest installs I've ever done (and I've done a lot).  There are lots of little "gotchas", multiple driver installs, obscure updates, and don't even get me started on the firmware updates.  I definitely sympathize.  I wish I could help, but it's been over a year since I did the install, so I'm pretty rusty on the ins and outs.  All I can say is I wish you luck, and don't give up.  Once it's all up and running, it's amazing and 100% worth the effort.   :)

Great you get it worked out. Computers are pig at times and can waste your time when they get cranky with you. Overall I've got to say I haven't seen any consistent issues with the USB side of the 700 gear though... that I can recall anyway.
