Burst of Noise when using Yamaha DTX-500 drum brain with drum VSTi

Very specific problem, but is apparently known to Yamaha.

I use my DTX-500 to drive a drum VSTi via MIDI and would occasionally get bursts of noise(like a record scratching).

Seemed to be random and the only common factor was the drum brain.

At any rate, I finally contacted Yamaha who were excellent.  Turns out this is a known issue and has been fixed.  They will do a firmware update for free even if your unit is out of warranty.

So:
- Yamaha DTX-500 drum brain
- MIDI to some soft synth
- Bursts of noise

Get in touch with Yamaha.

Posting this because contacting Yamaha was the last thing I tried.

The new version is 1.21 dated 6/5/2012
The old version was 1.20, dated 8/1/2011

They indicated that the service bulletin for the was was 1870.

    Hope that helps.

For the benefit of anyone who might stumble across this, here is the actual problem report that I sent:

I have a DTX 500 set that am using to trigger a VST for drum sounds. I have noticed that periodically when I am playing that I get a sudden burst of static. I thought that the issue was the VST or the host, but I have managed to record the MIDI messages that are being sent by the drum unit.

I have noticed the issue via two separate MIDI interfaces, different VSTs, standalone vs. hosted. The only common thing is the DX kit.

What happens is that I am playing an exercise on the kick, snare, and hat. Everything is fine until there is about a half second where I receive 20 or so notes for each of those pieces. The really weird thing is that if I zoom in, it almost looks like my exercise being played back at very high speed.

I can supply my recording as a MIDI file. Or a screenshot if that helps.

The tech I spoke to indicated that there was one issue that could be fixed with a factory reset
Factory reset the 500 by holding down the page left and right arrow buttons while turning the unit on. Try again, and let me know if you get the MIDI burst again.
That didn't work, so they swapped the motherboard to upgrade the firmware.
