OT: Windows 8.1 live stream presentation

If you are interested in whats coming in 8.1 there is a live stream underway right now:
 http://channel9.msdn.com/

May be hard to get in but I finally connected after a long wait.

Edit: I think they finished the Win 8.1 preview section. They might repeat it later. Nice to know that the desktop is back :-P

When you have 10000 people working on a product you can do quite a bit in a point release :) Its cool that it will be free to Win 8 owners.
Seems like a lot more than a point release despite them calling it 8.1 - some pretty big things in there.

Windows 3.1 was a big difference from 3. It was like a totally new version.

Thanks Noel!  Much more interested though to hear something about Sonar X2b, X2.1, or whatever is in the works.  What can you tell us?

Indeed. And I for one hope that you don't spend a second revamping X2 for win 8.1 You just retooled for 8.0 and you're already behind.

    Harsh but fair, and true.

So for a little perspective, how many people work on Sonar?

As far as Sonar is concerned, other than "touch" features, what are the benefits that Sonar X2 gains on Windows 8 vs. 7, and even more so, 8.1? I'm genuinely curious. Is moving to 8 or 8.1 worth the price?

Windows 8 is much better than Windows 7 in every aspect

Much better performance and the workload is more evenly spread over the CPU cores.

The UI changes are awesome as well, once you've gotten to know them. Unfortunately, people seem to be afraid of change and start shouting instead of trying to learn what it's all about..

I'd say the update is totally worth the $

    Loptec,

I'm in IT(we have Volume Licensing at my job so I can play as much as I want) and I don't find the OS for a non-touchscreen user better enough to spend my money on. I do NOT like the UI. I have yet to even go near peak on my current system, so I'm not really worried about it. And sure as heck I have learned to NEVER depend on a Microsoft first release!

Besides that, many companies don't have 8 compliant drivers. With all those factors... why bother?

Intel i7 950 Proc, Asus Sabertooth x58 MB, 2 Crucial 128GB SSDs and Seagate 1TBGB drive, 12GB Corsair 1600mhz 8-8-8-24 Memory, Nvidia GeForece 8400 Dual Monitor vid card

For sure.. There will always be as many opinions about w8 (or any OS) as there are people..

It's impossible for anyone but Brian himself to say if he'd like it or not.
The only thing to do, I think, would be to download and try out a w8 evaluation copy.

Noel, when are you going to do another Channel 9 show? Or maybe a video for Cakewalk Fans on your own Channel 9. It would be cool to hear you talk about the software... what you think the big wins have been in the last 10 years... what you think they will be in the next 10.

For that matter, I'd love to see a video of you making a recording and mixing a project. What are your favorite plugs?

StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen.
I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.
