PC packed up RAR (ASAP)

Having to download sonar x1
 
unfortunately, the RAR files will not load says it needs a zip file can I choose to save it in my note pad rather than a zip file seeing that these files are readable I would assume. 
 
Loading sonar as we speak its x1 cant be bothered with x2 just yet there is still mileage in X1

    Download the free 7Zip.
     
     
    It handles unpacking rar and much much more.
     
    And no, rar files are not readable in notepad, they are compressed format like zip. Windows automatically unpacks zip, but not rar.

    Thanks for that, actually just found 7zip and will use that to open it. Lost everything on this computer and had to back up my music files to my J: drive.
