X2 Pro instructions for Dimension Pro install confusing

Hello All-

Just installed X2 Producer from download. I also wanted to install Dimension Pro, but was confused by the install instructions that came with the download. Here they are:

Readme_EN.rtf
SONAR X2
(Windows 7)
Page 2: "Top Issues": Dimension Pro Content (Producer Only)
Dimension Pro Content (Producer Only)
When using Dimension Pro, in order to keep your user files in order, we recommended that you create
a folder in "Cakewalk Content" called "Dimension Pro" in order to save your files without needing to
run SONAR X2 as administrator. This is necessary as Dimension's Multisamples are located in “Program
Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro” The Presets, and Elements, are located in “ProgramData\Cakewalk
\Dimension Pro”
In order to save to these folders you must run SONAR X2 or the standalone application as
administrator.
To avoid needing to run as administrator every time you want to save a file associated with
Dimension Pro, we recommend saving to the "Cakewalk Content" folder, which does not require
administrator privileges.
======
So here is my question: Does the above apply when I am installing Dim Pro, or to files I create afterword as I am using Dim Pro? That is, during the install do I need to NOT use the default path for the multisamples, presets and elements, but rather browse to the "Dimension Pro" folder I already created in Cakewalk Content and install them there instead? Or does it mean that I should just go ahead do the default install, and after that use the custom "Dimension Pro" folder for other files created as I use Dimension Pro in my daily work with X2?

Any clarification on this appreciated!

Since I already run as administrator, I used the default locations. Running as administrator also solves other issues not related to DimPro. If you choose to run as administrator, you too can ignore this part of the Readme otherwise, you will need to make the adjustments recommended after performing the install (which also requires that you run it as administrator).

    Thanks for the quick reply-

So are you saying that if I do the default install, I have the option of later moving the concerned files to the custom "Dimension Pro" folder and so eliminate the need to run as Admin?

Here is a Windows 7 question...Since this is my home computer, and the only user (Main) is also administrator, does that mean that I am always running everything as administrator anyway...Without needing to right-click the Sonar (or other app) icon and manually select "Run as Administrator"?

I too run Win7 and have never run SONAR other than as administrator. It works fine without have to make any adjustments to the default SONAR installation. It is just to easy to set the privilege in the compatibility tab of the exe and forget it. Keep in mind there are other parts of SONAR, for example Pentagon, that require SONAR be run as administrator.

The README does provide a way if you choose to run DimPro without elevated privileges. The process is a manual step after installation, there is no installer option to perform the tasks.

    Thanks, Scook-

I just right-clicked my X2 icon, opened the compatibility tab and checked the "Run as Administrator" checkbox. Simple. Thanks again.

No. there is a difference between running an application "as administrator," and running an application under an administrator account. "Run as administrator" gives you (actually the application) more privileges, than an administrator account holder.

Thanks for the Windows info, Slartabartfast. Always good to know stuff like that.
