Right now they are offering big Sonar discounts if you buy that hardware. Too bad we can't get some value out of it. I gave away the disk that came with my interface. The guy I gave it to ended up buying SOnar.

If you read the End User License Agreement, technically, Cake forbids the selling & transfer of their software. However, the whole point of the free 'LE' versions included with hardware products are to exemplify the software in the hopes & anticipation that you'll pay for the upgrade, as I and others have done. Now your not going to sell it, but rather give it away, and it hasn't been registered, so you wouldn't be transferring it either. In essence, since you already own Sonar, you'd actually be doing Cake a favor by giving some one else the chance to check out & possibly upgrade as well, which is what Cake would want to happen. Sorry for the strike throughs - not my doing - just happened for the first time. Tried do fix it, but no way how. Now I wouldn't go on what I or anyone else says, but to cover your behind, [and mine], you should ask Cake. On the other hand, how would they ever know, since you haven't registered and/or activated the serial number. They would have no idea which free 'LE' version came in what box & where & when. If it were me, I would attempt to ask Cake first though.

That is correct, but it does not apply in this case. Unless he actually opens and installs the software and accepts the EULA, then there's no such agreement between him and Cakewalk, and he is free to do whatever he chooses with the software (in terms of the actual media that it's recorded on as a whole). So, you're free to sell, give it away, burn it. Anything that doesn't involve reading the bits off the CD should be legit.

Good to know, hadn't really thought about that. I also just purchased a Quad-Capture. Great piece of gear, like all the Roland stuff. I got it for my laptop, mainly for live performance (softsynths, etc.) but also for composing/recording with Cakewalk when I'm away from home. I'll may also use it in the studio, but I doubt I'll need it with the VS-700 as my main system. Anyway, I love this stuff. :)

I am also looking to upgrade my aging m-Audio 24/96 with the Quad Capture. (Was wondering in the back of my head if Roland would keep supporting it with driver updates for an extended period.) How do you Heather and wet dentist think of the sound recording quality?

There will be a driver update. There could be issues with the driver for the new Win 8.1 release. I would expect a new driver. I got lucky when I bought my Octa-Caprue. There gave away X1 studio if you bought the product within a specific time. I had to send in a copy of my receipt and then received X1 Studio. I already had X1 Producer so I sort of sold it. I sent it to my friend and he bought me a new mic. There were no issues.

The sound quality on the Quad Capture is excellent....one of the best interfaces I've used...and I've used a lot... It is extremely low noise, low latency, and very reliable.. Auto-Sense is awesome also... It uses the same preamps that the High End VS-700 Console uses... probably one of the best Interfaces in the price range... Latest Driver is Version 1.5.1 available here.. http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=downloads&p=UA-55

I have to agree, although I haven't really put it through its paces yet. For what I've done with it so far--mainly running EastWest Goliath and NI Guitar Rig 5 Pro--it sounds awesome. The auto-sense feature is really cool. The best thing about Roland gear, for me, is I know I'm getting quality components and solid performance that will stand up over time. I'm not saying there aren't any duds out there. But if there are, I haven't owned one. I own a lot of Roland gear, some new and some old--V-Studio 700, Quad-Capture, VM-3100 Pro digital mixer (x2), DS-90a monitors, Cube 40XL amp, Mobile Cube, JV-1010 synth w/orchestral expansion, VS-1680 workstation...not to mention some cool Boss stuff. Even the older stuff is still working great, and I intend to keep using it until it isn't.

Quad-Capture rules. love the sound & functionality. only thing that's weird is the headphones & master volume work on the same circuit. you have to turn your monitors off if you want to use headphones

Thanks Heather and wetdentist. Also guitarpima and cclarry. Another great example of why I keep coming back to this forum. When it really counts, the help/advise is there. I have made my choice, the Quad Capture it is. And for all the reasons Heather states. I have long known Roland gear to be everything Heather says it is. And I also have some old Boss gear that just won't give it up!
