Any Coax - S/P DIF Cable Suggestions?

Hey Buds,

I need to get some more COAX - [S/P DIF cables, which is what they used to be known as], but now they seemed to be listed as just Digital Coax Cable or Digital Audio Cable - instead.

Can someone confirm that they are indeed the same thing?

Not all of the listings show them as 75 ohms so I just want to be sure that 'Digital Audio Cable' is indeed the same thing.

I know that some may confuse them with regular RCA cables, but I have some already and know the difference.

Ideally, I'd like to find some really short ones for looping between the DI's & DO's of my rack mounted gear, so I don't need them any longer than they have to be, but I can no longer seem to find any short ones.

Any links?

Thanks,

James

Apparently the confusion is at the standards level. There is a "professional" balanced 3 conductor 110 ohm twisted pair cable with BNC connectors {IEC 60958 Type I}, and a "consumer" unbalanced 2 conductor 75 ohm coaxial cable with RCA connectors {IEC 60958 Type II} defined under the standard AES3 that defines spdif cabling. Both could be called spdif cables by a vendor.

If, like me, you only have the RCA connectors on your equipment, then you can probably use pretty ordinary quality 75 ohm coax. If the vendor specifies the IEC type you can be more certain of compatibility.

    Thanks slart.

Yes, some even combine TOSlink Optical with S/PDIF & Digital in the item description name - but I'm guessing that just for google search engine optimization.

Although I do have one BNC port on one of my devices, all my needs are for the RCA 75 Ohm type. It's just become increasingly difficult to find any that are less than 3 feet long.
1' cables are what I use to have, but now where to be found now.
