Forum Bug-Need Conformation

I went to a thread I replied to on my win8p and 2/3 of all posts had strike-through's on all words. Even posters names, reply buttons, even the name of the forum software had it. I checked one other thread and didn't see the same thing.

Post I'm talking about is the "Quad Capture Arrives" post. Can someone confirm?

I can indeed confirm that last night when I was replying to a post, the last half had strike throughs, but only the bottom half - not the top.

Kind of embarrassing for a software company, wouldn't ya say?

I think the reply box text editor follows the usual word processing program keybindings. You may have accidentally engaged the strike thingy. That probably wouldn't explain why it crossed out stuff outside the box but who knows. Seems they have at least gotten the repetitive post issue under control... or maybe people just aren't frantically clicking the Submit button anymore. lol

Oh and I just checked that thread. You post looks fine Grem. Just jimusic's is messed up but it's limited to the actual post. Not anything else. Should be able to edit out the strike tags but I was having problems with quote formatting the other day and apparently missing tags when I tried to edit it. It was weird.

OK let me be a little clearer. I was not posting. I was checking a thread that I had replied to. When I looked on my Win8p this is when I noticed the strike-throughs. I did not post anything to get the strike-throughs, so it wasn't anything that I inadvertently did.

And my viewing of the whole thread was like jimusic is describing, about half the thread was that way. Even the "Reply" button had strike-through in the word "Reply"!

I am back home now. Just checked said thread on my home PC and it looks fine like you see Beep. But looking again on my win8p it still has the strike-throughs.

No big deal. But I'm sure the admins will see it and think "He's on a Windows 8 Phone?' and then they start laughing at each other while the guy in the next cubicle says "Yeah let him wait for a fix on that!"

Which one? There are quite a few software companies that had a hand in writing this forum software and the tools you are using to interact with it.

Hmm...I would have thought just one company would have supplied this to Cake by contract.

It's news to me that more than one would have been involved, but I can see it.

But Cake would most likely want to periodically keep an eye on these forums to watch for any problems anyway, wouldn't they?

One way or another, it does inevitably reflect back on them though, even if they've been completely hands off of it.

You guys are a tough crowd.

For clarity, we didn't create this forum software, we just customized it a bit to fit within the bounds of our site. We can make slight modifications, but a lot of it is compiled, requiring us to contact the vendor for major changes. To be honest, we're more in the business of making music software, not forum software. We've been reporting issues as we come across them though, and resolving the ones we can on our end.

The post in question had some poorly formatted HTML (various <strike> tags and <s> tags mid post). It most likely happened by accident with a button press or key command. The mobile theme of this forum software didn't appear to like this... it was skipping over one of the closing tags. I could see exactly what everyone else was reporting. I edited the tags out and it appeared to resolve the issue for that thread. Seems to be to be more of an issue with the mobile theme than a specific browser (Windows 8, Android browser, etc.).

If it helps out Ryan, I'm on Win 7 starter, & the latest version of Chrome.

No post from any mobile device from me.

The accidental key press sounds quite likely, but I wish I knew which one.

You wouldn't have had to post from the mobile theme, but the mobile theme didn't display it properly from what I could see. I think that is why people were citing Windows phones and Android devices since the forum has a bunch of mobile detection strings that will automatically default these types of devices to using the mobile theme.

Anyhow, yeah I'm not sure what exactly caused it other than something by accident. As it is, some keypress accidentally just brought my browser back a page as I was typing this reply.   The cool thing though I didn't lose my draft when returning

Damn... I`ve been trying to find the common binding for strikethrough online but am having a hard time so I went to go look at the thread again to see if I could guess from where Jim`s post went wonky but you fixed it. lol

I have also manage to accidentally clear my browser history, open various save dialogs and browser functions, closed tabs, etc etc just hamfisting my way trying to find it to no avail. I`ve also locked my keyboard into one of the Alt character setting so now my apostrophes are backwards like this ````````
