More for Strummy! (And Rain, et. al.)
Ever heard of Wolfmother? They have two albums out, Cosmic Egg is newer and more polished, but their first, self-titled one if my favorite. Check it out HERE! I think you'll hear lots of influences in there (Sabbath, Deep Purple, Triumph, Zeppelin, etc.) yet the songs stand well on their own IMNSHO!

I recently heard a couple of their songs that my wife had in one of her playlists. Definitely some cool stuff. Makes me realize that the place where I'm most likely to hear new music is in the car, thanks to her playlists.
These days, my own MP3 player almost looks as if music history had come to an end in the early 80s - it's 90% old Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Kiss, Dio...

If there was, Mastering Engineers simply annihilated the rest of it. ;)
I think I gave up when I turned 40. Before that I'd always been on the hunt for new music, like dark electro and industrial and all of that. But even that became obsolete a couple of years ago.
My wife is a bit younger so she still hasn't lost all hope. She browses for new music a few hours every week - 99% of the time, it ends up in a ****ing fest (I love when she does that) and her losing the little faith in humanity she had left. lol
But she does find things, like Wolfmother, or one of her favorite, Foxy Shazam (those guys are insane, totally over the top).
Me, well, there's plenty of 70s early 80s music I haven't listened to, plenty of albums I have to discover. When I run out of old new albums to listen to, I'll start listening to Genesis or Rush or even the Carpenters - whatever I pick up, I'm almost sure it can't be worst than what's called music nowadays.

I'm still spending HOURS (possibly even weeks) sorting out my music and getting it into my music manager (Monkey Media). Unfortunately, I'm about as good at it as I am at being objective with a synth. I keep stumbling on to music that I've either never heard or haven't heard of in a long time and I'm off on a (wonderful) tangent for a while. Heck, I listened to a bunch of Todd Rundgren over the weekend. There's a lot of prog that was suggested here that I now have, but am still going through. It may be "old" but I'm sure having fun!
Now I'm off to find some samples of Foxy Shazam - lol.
