Cool new UAD deal

Hey folks,

For those of you who haven't yet taken the UAD plunge, there's an interesting offer that started today, running thru September.  If you buy a UAD card or Satellite unit, you get some free plugins -- good ones, not just the old standbys.  For instance, a Solo card ($300 retail) gets you the Neve 88RS channel strip ($300 retail).  The more hardware power you buy, the more free plugins you get, with the Octo card getting you the lauded Ampex tape sim.

Cheers,
Eddie

I actually got the 88RS (which is a really good channel strip) when I first got my (still current) UAD1e card and have been meaning to upgrade to the UAD2.....but....but....but, I just spent all my money on me new  build.

I'll have to keep looking for any (future) upgrade deals they might have as I do like using their plugins.

While I still might be inclined to purchase a few more UAD plugs...the Shadow Hills compressor and the Ocean Way room simulator come to mind...I'm probably pretty much done with UAD.  I've got plenty of power in my current card setup and too many plugs from them that have been superseded by other companies offerings.  Don't get me wrong...I love many of my existing UAD plugs...but I get so much more value now with new native offerings.  If UAD would start selling their plugins at reasonable prices (taking into account the cost of their hardware) I might be more inclined to stay with them.  But they may have run their course.  At least with me they have.

I hear you, ol pal.  But let's say someone (hypothetically speaking ) has been thinking of getting into UAD but hasn't until now.  It seems like a decent deal, doesn't it?  Look at the Solo -- for less than what Waves SSL has ever sold for, you can have a universally (heh) admired channel strip, plus the ability to demo UAD's plugins, which of course is impossible unless you have the hardware.

The thing that's a bit weird with UAD is the price difference between the Solo and Duo cards.  Why is the Duo more than twice as expensive?  Seems like the better deal (assuming you have the space in your PC) is to get two Solo cards, each with a free $300 plugin (if you already have the 88RS, you get a $300 coupon instead).   So in case you go gaga over UAD and run out of DSP power, you could just get the second card.  What could go wrong?

+1 what Yoropal said - almost exactly my thoughts - like what I have UAD wise - they do seem more stable now, but the cost of new plug ins make my eyes water...............

PS The only one I might be tempted with is the Ocean Way Room simulator as this MIGHT be something different and not available from other suppliers - but I will have to give this a good demo first, and unless this achieves something I can't do using other plug ins I will not be forking out the money!!

Ditto.  I sold my cards and all my UAD plugs and purchased native ones of equal and better quality.  I can put them on my laptop as well as my desktop.  I can use as many simultaneous instances as I need without having to spend $300-$600 on hardware that my i7 2600k has made obsolete.  The UAD model makes no sense for most people.  UA longs for the days when they were the best solution ... about 10 years ago.

WRT UAD plugs, yes I can run many native plugs that accomplish the same tasks. However, I've yet to find a single plug that can do for my P-Bass what the Helios does (practically out of the gate) with very little tweaking. I'll be keeping my UAD cards until they fail to function for that plug alone.

Yup...I have my faves too (including the Helios) and I'll continue using them as long as they function. But they'll really have to entice me to get any more.

Awhile back I thought about getting a UAD card.  My machine at the time was 32 bit.  I ended up diverting the funds that would have gone into the UAD card and went with a 64 bit Studio Cat.  I still think it was the better decision.  It would be nice if they went 64 bit.
