Best audio purchase ever
For years I've been throwing money at audio gear and software, yet I never got the sound I wanted. One of the guys posted a cartoon about audio recording that showed all this expensive gear being eventually routed to an mp3 player and ear buds. I had an epiphany, and realized that maybe I was missing something when it came to listening. I went on a quest and found myself a new stereo amp. It's a 1959 Harman Kardon hand wired tube amp. I can't tell you what a difference it's made in appreciation of music. Everything just sounds better. I'm running it through my very old Advent model 1, 2-way speakers. I don't need a sub anymore, this thing has percussive bass response and the smoothest highs. Best $500 I spent evva! The best part is that all tubes can be bought at a guitar shop, in a pinch. I can't think of a single plug in that has anything to compete with this amp.
Regards, John I want to make it clear that I am an Eedjit. I have no direct, or indirect, knowledge of business, the music industry, forum threads or the meaning of life. I know about amps. WIN 10 Pro X64, I7-3770k 16 gigs, ASUS Z77 pro, AMD 7950 3 gig, Steinberg UR44, A-Pro 500, Sonar Platinum, KRK Rokit 6

The JBL speakers and Ultrasone headphones have been what set me. I listen to music mostly at the DAW whether it be CD's or DVD's and with those two items I can enjoy it without any desire for something different. The cool thing is that the speakers will crank so I can dial up a guitar sound and not miss using a guitar amp because they will handle delivering "that" energy. They also have great software control so if I want to dial-in and preset an eq -no problem. I do have an old Pioneer amp that is crystal clear that is put away...along with a Pioneer 12" sub ...no need. I was hoping to condense all my music needs into one area with a set amount of space and it was nice when it happened...so I know how you'r feeling and it is great. :)

Oddly I like to listen to music more than gear.
In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

I sold some high-end speakers to this guy who had a DIY low-wattage amp with these thick copper cables going to a small sub and two speakers. It was the best system I've ever heard. I'm still not sure about all the specifics, except that he made it himself and it didn't cost all that much.
Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!
