Room Reverb

Hey Forum, we miked our church drums and I noticed that when we listen to the service live stream, the instruments and vocals sound up close being that they're direct into the mixer, but the drums sound far or one can really hear the size of the room or church's reverb. Will getting a glass cage cure that or not? thanks in advance

    IT WILL HELP.

the types of mics you want to use, will be dynamics that have a very tight focused field

everything you can do to minimize bleed will help.

make sure the drums are not bleeding into any of the vocal or choir mics.

the shields sound like a better idea the longer i think about it

To answer your question about the transparent shield you should endeavor to locate the source of the roomy sound.

How many drum mics are we talking about? Are the drum mics set up close to the drums or are they distance mics? Do you have someone who is familiar with mixing drums working on the mix?

Close mic-ing drums will get you and up-close sound.

Is it possible that the roomy sound you are getting is from bleed into other mics like a guiitar amp's mic or a pulpit's mic?

If you figure out where the roomy sound is coming from you can go to the next step and decide if using some sort of acoustic screen will be helpful.

    best regards,
    mike
