Staff view layout/staff properties/ treble & bass clef: Can clef "split" be overridden?

I'm writing a piano part using treble and bass clefs on staff view.  The  clef "split" is set to middle "C", but this causes some left-hand notes to appear in treble clef and some right-hand notes to appear in bass clef, making it visually confusing for a pianist to read/play.  I'm using Sonar X1 studio version and this is all fairly new to me.  I'd greatly appreciate if anybody knows of a way to move notes from one staff to another so the part (when printed) makes it easy for a pianist to read the part.  Thanks to any/all!  Mark

    There may be a button above the staff view for "Layout".
    That has a box in which you can select where the treble/bass split is.
    Hopefully they didn't remove that feature from X1.

    Thanks for the reply, but I'm already aware of the split button as I'm the one who set it to middle C.  What I need is a way to override that split setting or to know if there's a way to drag individual notes from bass to treble or from treble to bass clef.  I'd like to be able to mostly split the clefs so notes played in the left hand are in bass clef and notes played in the right hand are in treble clef.  Anyone know of a way to do this?  Thanks for any suggestions!

    I don't know if this will help.....
     
    You can set up two midi tracks and then in one show a treble clef only staff view.  With a treble clef only staff there is no split point so you can enter low notes and they will be attached to the treble clef.
     
    For the other midi track, show a bass clef only staff view.  You can enter high notes in that track and they will be attached to the bass clef.
     
    For printing, open the staff view for the first midi track and then pick both tracks for viewing and printing.  All the notes stay associated with the clef you entered them into.

    Larry,
    Thanks a lot for the suggestion.  It's actually something I already thought about, but it means having to do over the piano part I've just finished.  Being that I often enter many of my lines using a piano keyboard, I would have thought Sonar would have been designed to allow notes to be dragged and dropped from one clef to another.  By setting up two separate clefs as you suggested, I have to first record one hand, then go back and record the other... something which seems rather awkward, especially for any accomplished keyboard player who wants to capture what he/she is playing in a musically correct notation style.
    Are there any keyboardists who've figured out a way around this?  I'm still hoping to find an easy fix before I have to go back and record two separate tracks as Larry has suggested.  -- Mark

    Mark,  I thought that might be the problem.
     
    If there are not too many notes in an existing recording that you want moved to the other staff, then some midi editing could be used to separate out the almost correct treble and bass parts into two tracks and then fix just the notes needing fixing.  Not easy unless the number of fixes required is small.

    I have also had this issue - if only the Edit Layout panel allowed multiple split points to be entered much like it allows multiple meter/key changes.
     
    The way I get around this is first to pick the 'best fit' split point. Then duplicate the track to a new track. Use the first track as the treble and the second 'duplicated' track as the bass. Then delete out the unwanted bass notes from the treble track and the unwanted treble notes from the bass track. This is a lot quicker than it sounds since the majority of the notes are already in the correct stave. You can then print the two staves as a composite score.

    I have X2, so this will be based on that version and hopefully works on others.
     
    In staff view click on Edit. The drop down will have a feature called "layout." Click on that. The split point is in that window, default is c5. Not sure if the notes will move when you change it, though.
