It's an incredible bit of kit Craig, that's for sure.

I haven't tried any of that stuff yet, I'm still getting to grips with the basics!

Someday I know I'll get one (and maybe an AxeFX too).  I'm a sucker for toys like these!  All I need is to somehow make a lot of money...

Yum, is it strictly for guitar?

It's an amp simulator profiler on steroids.  I don't see why it couldn't be used for other purposes than just guitar!

Pricey but worth it.  If I was doin more bidness like I should be (instead of bein so broke that if steamboats was sellin for a dime a dozen all I could do is run up and down the riverbank shoutin, "ain't that somethin!") I couldn't resist such a temptation.  But I can look at it longingly and lovingly I reckon.

That was cool. But it's not like I don't already have a bunch of doohickeys lying around to make freaky sounds with.

And even if I could afford a riverboat, I'm kinda lacking a river and it's not like I'm gonna put in my backyard and pretend I'm in a Culture Club video. YMMV.

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

I agree - expensive, but worth it.
There's a staggering number of great profiles - clean, crunch, high gain, pretty much everything.
The fx aren't too shabby either.

The bonus is recording via spdif.
Left channel is the amp, right is the DI.
Reamping: Pick another profile, send the DI back in (spdif out), arm a new audio track (spdif in), press record, play the track. Done.

    Plus...you can go here:
    www.theampfactory.com

and get, for very little geetus, profiles of some of the worlds coolest, most sought after (and most expensive) boutique amps in singles or bundles.  Check them out.  I hadn't even heard of the Evil Robot by Phil X (or Phil X himself for that matter) but whoa...who knew an old accordion amp could sound so good on geetar!!  And, unfortunately because I could never afford one, I've discovered through this site Divided By 13 amps.  Dern!

'Ol Pal, I bought the excellent Metal Producers Pack from Andy at Amp Factory, as well as a 'single' rig profile of a Marshall JCM800 built for Status Quo's Francis Rossi. I recorded a rough test track using two of the 'pushed' profiles and a clean profile - the tones are pretty convincing, check out my backing track of Backwater.

The Kemper itself also comes pre-loaded with a lot of profiles, and there is a pretty active 'Rig Exchange' area in the members' forum.

I absolutely love it, and I've only scratched the surface of what it can really do.

My only (tiny) beef is with the file management system. It can actually hold around a thousand individual profiles, but these are only accessible by scrolling through them all. The profiles themselves are transferred to and from the Kemper on a USB flash drive, so from a purely practical perspective, it's actually easier to back up and then delete all the installed profiles, and just load the ones you want to play or record with.

The unit has USB in/out slots, and it's rumoured that a firmwear update is being worked upon which will allow the Kemper to be connected direct to a computer, which I reckon would be the icing on the cake. I love the way my Line 6 Valve amp and FBV floorboard can be linked to my PC, allowing editing of the tones using the PC software, and then storing them directly into the floorboard and the amp itself.
