I love the sounds. I hate the saves...

I might not be the smartest dude in the room on any given night, but I should be able to successfully save a guitar patch, alter it, then save again--but this seems to elude me in TH2.  I have been screwing with it for quite a while now, and my results seem to change each time.  Sometimes it saves my changes of name and patch, sometimes it saves it but in a different row, sometimes it shows a old variation....
 
Quick Edit here:  this is with multiple instances open.  They just don't show the same thing, even if I save my project then reopen.  The changes in patch and variation only seem to effect the particular instance I'm working on, and not other instances on different tracks.
 
I can't even seem to figure out what it is thinking.  Have I insulted the VST?  Is it still bitter from my last fling with Guitar Rig?
 
It seems to particularly dislike saving over older patches.  This can't be as hard as I am making it.  Someone show me the light.
