Installation not working

Please help.
Using windows 8.1 on 64 bit system. Downloaded X2 Producer trial. Failing to install as it stops at error message. Clicking retry goes nowhere.
Error message: An error occurred while trying to create file in the destination directory. The file or directory is corrupted or unreadable.

Sounds like you may need to re-download the file(s). Have you disabled your antivirus when installing it?

If you are unsure of if your download is corrupted or not, you can perform a checksum calculation on it.

The MD5 Hash value we currently have for the SONAR X2 Producer trial installation is the following: 75dbd86ea3c67e683bb50d76da57faaf

Ultimately, you will want to make sure your downloads match the checksum value above. If it doesn't match, then the installer will not run properly. If you have never performed a Checksum Calculation, there are a variety of free tools available online that will do this for you. The one I'm personally a fan of can be found at http://www.pc-tools.net/win32/md5sums/

This one is very simple to run. Basically you just drag the SONAR installer on top of the md5sums.exe file and it will return a result in command prompt. Match that result against what I have listed above. If it's different, you'll want to download again.

    I hope this is helpful!

I have tried turning off defender & running again. The checksum matches. Not sure what to do now. The install goes as far as a particular directory & then comes up with the error message.
    Any ideas?

Are you running the installer as administrator? If not, right-click on the installer and select run as administrator option.

    Interesting.

8.1 obviously wasn't officially tested, but this sounds system specific. I'm not in a situation personally at the moment to test the trial in 8.1 so I can't confirm if I can reproduce the same behavior myself right now.

Any other AV software running in the background? Press CTRL + ALT + ESC to pull up the Task Manager. On the Processes Tab is there anything else AV related that be running as a background task?

Have you tried closing all other programs (even your browser)? Some browsers will run a virus scan and might be holding on the the executable.

Silly last resort for the time being, but have you restarted your computer lately? Pending updates in Windows Update might prevent the installer from writing properly. If you're going to restart, you might want to revisit the Task Manager and disable any unnecessary start-up applications just to rule out whether or not they're getting in the way.

I have run the installer as administrator to no avail.
I have restarted the pc several times
I have stopped tasks from running.
I am downloading again & will try with browser shut.
I also paid for and downloaded music creator 6 touch & cannot install it.
I have downloaded the latter to my work pc & it works on that system; windows 7. Also producer works on this computer.
    Very frustrating

For whatever the worth, I use Windows 8 Pro, and have for quite a long time, with ZERO issues.  I have no interest whatsoever in Windows 8.1, as I have everything set up nicely in Windows 8, and have no need to go back to the Start button and all of that.

I think Windows 8.1 is a bit 'new', and may have some untested realities.

Definitely frustrating. All we can do is keep ruling more and more things out. Anything else unique you can tell us about your system?

Is it a dual boot configuration?

Is your root drive your C:\ drive?

Are you installing to the default directory or attempting to install elsewhere?

How much free space is available?

Other than SONAR X2 Trial and MC6T, have you attempted to install any other programs recently?

Are there any Microsoft services disabled by accident? Easy way to check this:

    1) Go to the Run prompt by holding the Windows key and pressing "R"
    2) Type in the following: msconfig
    3) Click [OK]
    4) In the System Configuration utility, click on the Services Tab
    5) Look for services with "Microsoft Corporation" listed as the manufacturer

Any non-Microsoft services running in the background that maybe should be temporarily disabled? Easy way to check this is to do the above, but click the "Hide all Microsoft services" button.

Fixed after download location given by Cakewalk. Must have been some kind of download corruption.
    Thanks
