What kind of problem are you having. Have you installed the driver that came with it....or downloaded the driver from the Tascam site? http://tascam.com/product/us-1641/downloads/ If you are having trouble loading the driver...turn the Windows UAC (User Access Control) off.... Control Panel User Accounts Change User Account Control Settings Move the Slider all the way to the bottom Windows will then force you to reboot Worked out-of-the-box here...no problems. Hope This Helps

I have the US 1800 which is basically the same as the 1641. I load up the demo files and the CPU meters hardly move. If I start a project with a couple synths and drums, I get spikes galore. I can raise the asio drivers to the max and it barely makes a difference. Not sure what I can do to make a difference.

I would suggest you set your audio interface to: Sample Rate of 44.1, and an ASIO Buffer Size of 128 (might be expressed as Number of Samples - if so shoot for something that gives you around 9-11 millisecond latency, as a starting point). Once the above is done, power down the interface and back up again. Please note that all of the above should be done while Sonar is not running. OK, after that, fire up Sonar, and try the following: 1. Go to Preferences>Audio>Playback and Recording, and select ASIO as the driver mode, then click Apply. 2. Now, in Preferences>Audio>Device Settings, make sure the Sample Rate is set to 44.1 - to exactly match what you have set for your audio interface. Again, click Apply. 3. In Preferences>Audio>Devices, check all inputs and outputs for your audio interface and click Apply. 4. Now go to Preferences>File>Audio Data, and set Record Bit Depth to 24 and again click Apply. 5. Now, preview a sound or song file in the Media Browser, and see if it sounds OK. Please try the above and post back with results. Bob Bone

Tascam...used to love my 244 portastudio, fast foward 20 odd years, and bought a US600 USB 2.0 interface,ASIO,or WDM,I only got sound for ten minutes in 3 very "baldness enhancing" weeks, then the mega store[won't mention their name ]only had a cakewalk UA25-EX USB 1.1,as a swap. It works like a charm, and sound's pretty good on my sig. dektop, with 12.6ms being the ABSOLUTE lowest Round Trip Latency,[indicated...often optimistic using this : http://www.oblique-audio.com/free/rtlutility]though "No Go" on my Laptop, but after spending the equivalent,to an RME Babyface[what I should have bought initially!] I scored, and got a VS-100 control/USB 2.0 Interface, very much "like new"from ebay for $162.50 AUD,works like a charm, but RTLatency is not exactly real low, though I'm extremely grateful, after the "USB Interface Hell"that seemed to last forever! Tascam have some driver problems,to say the least, and your's maybe due to the device being implemented when XP 32 bit was the norm, sorry I'm not more "up-vibe" and helpful. Bob

I think you meant awful, not allful, but unless you tell us what you mean by that, we can't help you.
