Thanks, Carl! I downloaded the latest driver.

I still find that DigiCheck doesn't work on Windows 8.1.

Looks like my Fireface 800 drivers and firmware is outdated. Kind of hate to update since everything is working so well. I can't remember if Totalmix also gets updated by the new driver install or if that is a separate install. Don't see Totalmix on the RME site.

TotalMix get updated with the drivers. It is part of the download, and newer versions are better.

Go to homepage of RME in english and click on Updated Drivers. All the time drivers are there.

On my machine, TotalMix used to reside in whatever directories I unzipped the drivers to. Now, the drivers come down in an EXE and automatically install.

I find TotalMix here now, C:\Windows\System32\TotalMixFX.exe.

It has been nicely updated with pretty UI enhancements I have to imagine are related to the IPad version of the app which will work when the device is in Class Compliant mode.

I'm quietly hoping for a Linux version of the IPad App. :-)

I should be installing my RME Hammerfall HDSP 9652 card tomorrow evening.  It is a used card that I bought on Ebay.  Could very well need a flash update.

Any tips or things I should watch out for?  I'd like to be completely up and running again by the end of the week.  I'm not expecting any difficulties but who knows?

    Hi Dave,

After watching the installation video it seems that you need to get the Driver installed first and then use FUT to do the firmware update. When you run the FUT it will tell you the current HW version and let you know if an update is needed. It did take a few minutes for the firmware update to finish and I was starting to get concerned but all went well.

    Hope this helps some.

Re: RME drivers updated 2013/07/21 16:13:57 (permalink)
    Thanks Carl.
Here's the readme.txt for the HDSP series:

    -----------
    RME Intelligent Audio Solutions
HDSP Series (AES-32, MADI, 9652, 9632, Multiface, Digiface, RPM)
HDSPe Series (PCI, MADI, MADIface, ExpressCard, RayDAT, AES, AIO)
Driver for Windows XP/Vista/7/8, 32 and 64 Bit
    Important information: Driver version 3.36

This is the HDSP(e) series WDM streaming driver, offering additional features like WDM streaming, kernel streaming, 64 bit support and full Vista/7 compatibility. It supports all HDSP and HDSPe series cards and systems simultaneously. The TCO can be operated with the HDSP AES-32, the HDSPe PCI/MADI/AES/RayDAT/AIO, but not with the HDSP 9632.

    Notes on the driver
    -----------------
    - The driver requires a new Firmware (flash) in case you are updating from driver 2.94 or older.
    - The driver does not support MME.
    - This driver requires a newer version of DIGICheck, version 5 or higher. Please download it from the RME website, section Downloads/DIGICheck.

    Installation
    -------------
    Latest driver:
    http://www.rme-audio.com/..load/hdsp_wdm_3xxxx.zip

The driver requires a new Firmware (Flash Update Tool, FUT) in case you are updating from driver 2.94 or older.

    Firmware for HDSP series cards:
    http://www.rme-audio.com/download/fut_wdm_dsp.zip

    Firmware for HDSPe series cards:
    http://www.rme-audio.de/download/fut_wdm_dspe.zip
The firmware update is not possible unless the driver had been installed before.
Both driver installation and flash update are explained in detail in the manual!

*** First time installation of RME Audio Interfaces under Windows 7/8 ***
The procedure and instructions found in the manual are correct and stay valid, except for the start of the installation. In Windows 7 Microsoft removed the automatic start of the Driver Software Update dialog. Therefore this dialog has to be started manually after the failed driver installation.
    - Hit the Win key, type 'Device Manager', start the Device Manager by selecting it from the list and hit Return.
    - The device is shown with a yellow warning symbol. Usually it is already found in the correct category, Sound, Video and Game Controller (Plug & Play detects a multimedia device). The Fireface UC is even shown with its correct name.
    - Right click on the device and select 'Update Driver Software' from the context menu.
    - The dialog 'Update Driver Software' appears. Now follow the instructions given in the manual.

    ----------------------
    Update 3.36, 05/21/2013
    - ASIO 2.3 support with higher priority for the ASIO driver thread via MMCSS in the Settings dialog About page.
    - Note: At this time, activating this option seems to be useful mostly with the latest Cubase/Nuendo at higher load. With other software this option can decrease performance. The change becomes active after an ASIO reset. Therefore it is easy to quickly check which setting works better.

    ----------------------
    Update 3.35, 04/08/2013
    - Fix: Version 3.34 caused ASIO not to work stable when sample rate or buffer size were changed.
    ----------------------
    Update 3.34, 03/18/2013
    - WDM full duplex: click in playback caused by start of record fixed
    - TotalMix: Settings are stored for the current user (compatible to Windows 8)
    ----------------------
    Update 3.33, 02/18/2013
    - ASIO multiclient operation improved. Click on start/stop fixed.
    ----------------------
    Update 3.32, 01/08/2013
    - TCO feature was not available with Multiface/Digiface
    ----------------------
    Update 3.31, 11/16/2012
    - 'Lock Mixer' now completely locks TotalMix
    ----------------------
    Update 3.30, 11/06/2012
    - New TCO option 23.976
    ----------------------
    Update 3.29, 05/07/2012
    - Changing the sample rate could cause a problem (stop) with programs that do not support kASIOResetRequest
    - AIO only: using the AI4S-192 module the phones out did not work correctly under Win 7, under Win XP the device names were wrong.
    - TotalMix: new option 'Preset Folder' allows to save default.mix and Preset files in any directory.

    ----------------------
    Update 3.27, 12/14/2011
    - Settings dialog: clock state could show wrong info (MADIface)
    - Settings dialog: Label 'ADAT' changed to 'Optical' on some cards
    ----------------------
    Update 3.26, 08/03/2011
    - HDSPe MADI: since firmware 28 MIDI over MADI did not work during 32 bit playback
    - RPM: Settings dialog was only partly implemented
    - HDSPe PCI/ExpressCard: without attached box 'ock' was shown in the sample rate menu
    - HDSPe AES: WDM Devices in the Settings dialog influenced the number of ASIO channels
    - General WDM: The driver used the state of the Interleaved button of older drivers, which could cause the loss of surround playback capability
    - General WDM: After selecting Stereo in the Loudspeaker setup a stereo playback blocked the first 8 channels

    ----------------------
    Update 3.24, 05/09/2011
    - Improved TCO function. For the best, sample-aligned operation via APP the following firmware versions should be used: HDSPe MADI rev. 28, HDSPe RayDAT rev. 12, HDSPe AES rev. 8, HDSPe AIO rev. 12, or higher.

    ----------------------
    Update 3.21, 03/14/2011
    - Correct installation of the Settings dialog under Win 64
    - Settings dialog completely reworked
    - Settings dialog saves the current position
    - WDM driver completely reworked. Sample rate is now set in the Settings dialog (Win 7).
    - Multi-client playback mixing on identical channels

    ----------------------
    Update 3.085, 08/05/2010
    - MADIface: Quad Speed did not work in slave mode
    - HDSP 9632: Firmware 152 was missing in the driver, so the card was not detected
    ----------------------
    Update 3.084, 07/08/2010
    - TCO: timecode offset changed for Magix software
    - TotalMix: The tooltips on the preset buttons did not work

    - TotalMix: Added support for Faderfox TM1 remote control

    - TotalMix: OVER LED moved by one pixel.
    - TotalMix: The folder for custom bitmaps must now have the name bmp_hdsp (before bmp). This change allows to have different custom bitmaps for the Fireface mixer (bmp) and the HDSP mixer (bmp_hdsp).
    - WDM: The Settings dialog of HDSP 9652 and Digiface allows to limit the number of WDM devices. The entered number is checked for validity.
    - Factory presets of HDSPe MADI / MADIface fixed.
    - Vista: MMCSS can be enabled in the Settings / About dialog (not recommended)
*Note: This version supports ASIO timecode (APP) only, converting LTC to MTC is not supported. Please note that the hardware design requires to use an additional word clock cable in the folling case:
Generating an audio clock out of the incoming timecode requires a BNC cable from the TCO's word clock output to the word clock input of the Multiface/Digiface. In the Settings dialog Pref. Sync Ref has to be set to TCO and Clock Mode must be set to AutoSync. If the incoming timecocde is not used to clock the HDSP system the BNC cable is not needed.

    ----------------------
    Update 3.067, 08/07/2008
    - Completely new memory routines to prevent BSODs
    ----------------------
    Update 3.066, 08/06/2008
    - WDM: Speaker setup defines 6 or 8 channel playback
    - Support for DirectMusic MIDI added

Anytime I have done an update of drivers for RME, TotalMixFX and all have gone in the Windows/System32 folder. They do not go anywhere else if updating the drivers is done correctly. Still unzip the file where you download it to, or folder you make for it, get up the RME device in Device Manager, and get up Properties -> Update Drivers and point it to make the update to the folder where you unzipped the files after reading the text file about what the update is about. In the case of the Firmware update just run the program after unzipping and read the text file and it will tell you whether your firmware needs to be updated or not. (if not a new version of it).

So other than a total mix face lift, did they add any new functionality?

It is kind of weird.  When I owned other interfaces from MOTU, Mackie, or EMU or Steinberg.  I always looked forward to driver releases because it might fix a functionality problem that was driving me nuts.  Since I bought the UFX, I haven't had a single glitch or issue.  Everything works perfectly all the time.  Part of me is thinking, "whats the point of updating".  Of course I always like added features...

Certainly is a first-world problem.  Everyone should have their drivers written by RME.

Re: RME drivers updated 2013/07/22 14:43:07 (permalink)
Well, they make improvements and changed TotalMixFX in the last version, so still the process is updating for new tech items such as the iPad and iOS whatever which then the units were made to be class compliant so that you could run their RME units (some better than others) without a computer and on a iPad say and then the graphics has to be changed to accommodate the new tech hardware items.

And sometimes there are mistakes in the programming that they find solutions for when it is reported on the RME forum and sometimes they have to correct the programming done in the last version and some of that is working around problems not seen by RME for some people who own their products.

    They listen at RME!

I kinda hated to update my UFX cause everything has just been flawless but everything seemed to update just fine and seems to still be rock solid! TotalMix looks cool too.

X-3e/X-2a, Windows 7 64bit, Intel i7-2600, 16Gb ram, 4 Tb HDD, 32 inch monitor, RME FireFace UFX, Shure SRH1840 Headphones, KRK Rockit 5 monitors w/ KRK 10 inch sub and 3 Dachshunds.
