VS-700 and other DAWs

I already know the answer, or at least I think I do... It works using Mackie protocol, so, it is limited to faders, pans, transport and a few other minor options.

But... Is there ANY way to adress the other unused knobs and buttons to work with other DAWs? I am asking it because I am about to sell it (already have a buyer). I could rethink this if the system could have a further integration with other platforms... Is this impossible?

Thank you for your attention.

Peace.

If we could modify the other knobs and buttons I don' think we'd be having the problems we are with it now, so doubt you can do anything more with it on other platforms.

Hi Mauricio, there are some things that would be possible but full integration is unlikely I'd expect. It's too hard for Cake/Roland to get this great controller fully integrated to X2 so one can only imagine the drama trying to get it to work with a platform it wasn't designed for....oh hang on, that probably includes X2.

In a less tongue in cheek vein, if only we could get flexible integration, we would ALL be jumping with joy so you have to think it's not possible or they simply would have done it to shut up all the moaning. Either that or they really are dumping support....?

Sounds like you may be jumping of the good ship Sonar?

    Cheers.

On a similar note, is the control surface compatible with any other audio interfaces?  I think I've outgrown my VS700R but I really would like to keep the board if possible, but it seems its connection is proprietary.

Cakewalk and Roland was not speaking the same language when they jumped into the VS-700 project... I am glad to be able to sell my set, I tought it was barely impossible to do it without have a huge money lost, but God is good, and I got almost 5k back. Since I paid 6k 4 years ago, it's a incredible deal, isn't it?

Anyway, I will keep Sonar under my hood, but I am getting more and more satisfied with Reaper. Such a nice well developed software.

So, today I have Sonar X2a, Reaper 4.402, Reason 7, Cubase 6.5 and ProTools 10. (Reaper have a ProTools theme, is very funny to use it)

    Still, I like Sonar.

    God bless you all

Hi again Mauricio, getting nearly $5k back is excellent! Well done.

What are your thoughts now regarding a control surface? Are you thinking of options to cover (hopefully) all the software bases? Reaper 4 looks interesting...

    Cheers to you!

Mully, i have to tell you...

I think the best aproach for a control surface is to have basic transport controls, dedicated fader, pan knob, mute, solo and select buttons and a single extra " self programin" knob who attempt to work with anything your mouse is pointing on... If there is any surface who did it, I will buy it.

Anyway, I will probably go to a Studio Capture interface, just for the record.

    Peace my friend.

Hey mate the Studio Capture looks pretty good as though they've learnt from some of the errors with the 700R perhaps.

Couldn't tell if it has a fan or not? USB to the computer again? Pity there are no inserts but overall it does look pretty good plus a new driver interface that looks a lot better. Nice unit.

They seem to be around the $1k price. No pad switch?

    Interesting...

    Cheers M.

I don't know about the fan yet Mully, but I hope it have none... Anyway, it supose to be a kind of "endorse partnership" so, I will probably not pay for it, at least not in money... Maybe some workshops and/or tutorial videos...

In any case, I am very releaved about the VS situation, no more a worry at this end.

    Peace.
