Sonar LE file types. HELP! computer crashed

Hello, Forum newby here. A few (maybe 5 or 6) years ago , I bought an EMU audio interface for recording and installed the included SONAR LE at the time of installing the interface on my recording computer. The setup has worked fine until yesterday when the computer (not this one. I have a computer dedicated to recording & not connected to the 'net) started uncommanded shut downs and re-boots and won't stay running. I think I got all my Cakewalk files that were created with SONAR LE ( from the 'CAKEWALK PROJECTS' folder) saved to a USB stick, but when I opened that stick on another computer (this one) that does not have SONAR LE installed, the files seemed to be listed in a different way than when I see them in SONAR LE. The stick has the 'AUDIO FILES' folder, and all the songs are listed individually (not in a folder) as .cwk files. Also, there is a folder on the stick within the 'CAKEWALK PROJECTS' folder named 'PICTURE CACHE' that has all .WOV files that seem to be needed for SONAR as they have file names like the CWK and audio files. The biggest problem is that I cannot find the SONAR LE distribution CD to load SONAR LE on an other computer. So, the questions are these: 1) What is the relationship for these files and how does SONAR use them? I remember something about the .cwk files being pointers to the audio files, but never noticed the .wov files. 2: Where can I get a distibution disk of SONAR LE? or 3: What other Calkwalk program can be used to play my recordings? I also have Guitar Tracks V3, but it does not want to play the SONAR LE Recordings. I can play the audio .wav files in media player, but those are only short files of different 'takes' not the whole recording. Thanks in advance to anyone responding, Larry Robertson, Denver, CO

After you bought your interface and SONAR LE, Cakewalk changed the file extensions.
What was once .cwk (work) is now .cwp (project).
But, you should be able to open them with any Cakewalk program. You won't be able to save them with the old file extensions, but you shouldn't need to since you won't be able to open them with the old LE program anyway.

I would add that you do not need the WOV files in the picture cache. Those files are the graphic waveforms displayed in the track view. It is common to delete the files in the cache and they are rebuilt when the project is opened again.

I have discovered that Guitar Tracks Pro v3 will play the track audio files as "imports" to GT pro, but have not figured out how to combine them into a project or full song as was recorded in SONAR LE. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, Larry

Well, that is a task you will have to determine each and every file. In the future you will want to make a project folder for each and every song for the audio tracks, the WOV files are not a problem that way. There (at least to me) is nothing you can do with the audio but listen to each one and determine what project (or song) it was included with in the song(s). You may if you can also want to make a *.bun file that includes all the tracks and everything in the each project all saved in a separate *.bun file. Those other extensions for files are all Cakewalk files, and also Template files you may make would have also another extension for a Cakewalk program.

Best if you could really find the disc for Sonar LE and re-install it while with the regular program if bought, you would need the registration number and serial number (on the CD) to install on a different computer (only using one computer the program is on which ever computer that would be).
