A funny thing happened to me on the way to the Cakewalk Forum

I figured I would stop by the Apple Logic Pro forum to see what the latest scoop was on the latest major release in 4 years (Logic Pro X). And guess what? I'm reading complaint after complaint from users of the previous platform complaining and griping about all the changes (darker interface, nomenclature, added functionality, and a few apparent bugs.... as if they were supposed to be immune to that sort of thing.

So I hit the Pro Tools DUC forum and see al the things that the Pro Tools users are complaining about with PT 11.

In both communities I hear "if they don't fix it real soon, I'm jumping ship to (fill in the blank).

And I had to pause, smirk and laugh..... then leave a post of "Well what do you think, the grass is greener on the other side?"

If you saw my lawn, you'd know that the grass really is greener on the other side... *Sigh*

I honestly believe that a large portion of the people who hang out on forums are simply clueless and whiners. In most cases, people who actually know anything about the software and have the patience to learn to use it are the quietest, the most positive, most well-behaved and helpful.

But idiots outnumber them - I've seen them complaining after seeing a few screenshots on Facebook. And they're everywhere. They complain on MacPro Video's feed, on Mix Magazine's feed - any place where they can type a comment, they'll spew their crap.

In fact, of all the dozens of people I know who use Pro Tools and Logic in real life, none of them actually hangs out on forums.

I have NEVER heard one of them complain about the GUI or say that they'd dump it if this or that wasn't implemented.

Oh ho!  You've got yourself a deal!  For me, I'll feel like I just mowed off the top three feet!

Actually, in back, I have weeds TALLER than I am (and I'm 6' 4" tall).  An evicted tenant did a lot of nasty things on his way out including stealing or damaging most of our lawn and garden tools...  Oh well.

So I just logged back in over there to see what the fuss was all about.

And you know it's going to be good when some dude named LogicIsDoomed starts his post by complaining that he's waited nearly 5 years for Logic X when Logic 9 was released pretty much exactly 4 years ago, July 23 2009... Fortunately, he realized that he didn't have a leg to stand on after a few pages.

But it is fascinating indeed, though it's not as awful as I thought it would be. Any aesthetic change - or absence of change - will inevitably cause people to complain. In most case, just telling them that Pro Tools or Cubase is so much better will shake them out of it... ;)

I've come to the same conclusion.

Funny thing happened to me too.

For the first time after many years I started looking at other sequencers and
when I saw what Pro Tools was doing I became very, very interested.
I believe in the near future that it is going to be one very sweet host....and really
the first I've seen that I would even consider moving from Cake to use. I'll be watching
them closely as I wait to see how Cake handles things with whatever they release this year.
