Sonitus plugins only good in Cakewalk products?
I bought the Sonitus bundle because they are really good plugins and I thought I could use them in another DAW. After all, they've been bundled in with SONAR Producer to my knowledge since SONAR 7, so selling them as a separate item must mean that they can be used independent of SONAR, right? However, I cannot get MixBus to recognise/list the plugins. I notice that the installer's first choice is to install them in Cakewalk's Shared Plugins folder... Does anyone know whether these great plugins will work in non-Cakewalk products and, if so, how I can get to use them in MixBus? PS: The same goes for the Audio FX 1,2 and 3 downloads. Thanks to all.

I'll take a guess and say that MixBus doesn't recongnize DX-based plugins. If I remember right, EffectChainer would allow you to use DX effects within a VST host - check KVR.

Cakewalk bundles the 32 and 64bit DX format of the Sonitus suite with SONAR. The Audio FX series are 32bit DX format. The plug-ins are not locked to Cakewalk DAWs but most other DAWs cannot use DX plug-ins. Most host require a DX to VST wrapper in order to use DX plug-ins. When wrapped the plug-ins may work in a VST host. The Sonitus suite is also for sale (currently $19) at the Cakewalk store. The suite contains the 32bit versions of the plug-ins in both VST and DX format.

As probably already spelled out, the Sonitus plugins are not in any way shape or form tethered to Sonar. It's just that DX plugins are a dying breed. I have used the sonitus plugins in plenty of programs from Acid to Reaper. They are a great bargain if you have a host that supports them or can get a wrapper that is effective.

Just noticed it came as vst. Its been years since I installed it seperately from sonar. I 'm pretty sure that every effect and instrument sold seperately from sonar except cor prochannel stuff is not tethered to sonar

guylemec I bought the Sonitus bundle I don't understand: if you bought them, then you got the VST version as well, which will work in any other application. Besides, you say in your footer that you use Sonar X2a - so you have them from Sonar as well (being bundled with it). So you have them 2 times and still they don't work in MixBus ?

You're right to be confused, PopStar... my MixBus is on my (other) 32bit Vista PC so I bought the bundle to install there. What I forgot is that, in MixBus, the plugin lists can be different for stereo and mono tracks and I was looking for the Sonitus plugins to add to the wrong track type... another plus for SONAR that doesn't differentiate in this way. Thanks to all.

Foster Mansfield Work ok in FL Studio 10 Producer
I can't get them to load in either FL Producer 10 or 11 (the latest versions which ship with X2) :-/ I thought it might be because of this: "These plug-ins have been enhanced with DirectX automation, and can be use with SONAR, Home Studio, Project5 or any application supporting DirectX or VST." i.e. the seemingly odd combination of VST plugin with DX automation/presets. To be honest, I can't figure out if the Sonitus DLLs in the Shared Plugins folder are VST or DX.

All plug-ins in the shared plug-ins folder are DX. Also in SONAR the DX plug-ins are at the top of the plug-in lists separate from the VST plug-ins.

Hi there Guy. I am a Harrison Mixbus fan too, I love it. One thing I found about plugins and especially getting Mixbus to scan them is I found it is much better to create a folder and only put copies of the DLL's in there you want Mixbus to find. Then point Mixbus only into that folder when scanning. It will take far less time and you will only have a short list of the ones you really want to use inside Mixbus. If you don't do this it will scan your whole system which not only takes a long time but I found plug-ins that Mixbus did not like. It does depend on you either using Mixbus right from the start to create everything within it and mix there too. Then you will want a lot more of your plugins available to it. I use my DAW to do everything right up to the mix stage. I export tracks and buses for importing into Mixbus. I even export the reverb returns and put those stems on a track as if the reverb were inside Mixbus. Although I did get their reverb plugin and it sounds very very good too. Export any special plugin effects and any EQ's that are either surgical or specialised. Leave any broad based EQ and dynamics off when exporting and do that in Mixbus. It handles both of those things really well. It sounds fabulous too. It is excellent even for just mastering. The mastering EQ and multiband comp are also very nice too. I also like the Sonitus stuff a lot and I asume you got that working OK as well.

Cheers, that clarifies why FL can't load them as a VST then. For some reason FL 10 doesn't list them under its DX plugin list (although other DX plugins I have do show up), so I'm not sure what's going on with that.
