Leap Motion controller
I got my Leap Motion controller delivered today ($80). The idea is to sense your hand position, and control the computer through gestures.
The installation is web-based--the user must download the installation software. It turned out that nothing worked, and I went to the support page. I consulted the log for the diagnostics, and the recommendation was to update my software. So it turned out that the installation page installs version 1.03, which didn't work on my machine. The update software button installs version 1.04, which does work.
Interesting device. I'm disappointed that their software is 32-bit. For a device like this, they really should have made a native 64-bit version so it would more efficiently use the computer resources.
Anyway, I have not yet tried it with Sonar. My wife just glared at me for buying another gadget, so I better learn how to use it. I will post again after I've spent a little time with it.

Definitely interested in hearing how it works out! Thinking about picking one up for mainly for Sonar.

I use it with Geco only, to control synths. It's like a 3dimensional dbeam ;)
Interestingly, but quite different to real physical control ;)

I'm curious if it might be useful in addition to a touch screen or is it kind of in place of a touch screen?
StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen. I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

From the little I've read, you don't touch the screen as it uses sensors to detect your hand movement. This does have a lot of potential for growth as being in its infancy stage, I'm sure there's a lot of limitations/bugs that need ironing out. Yet, looks like a very cool idea...

I've read that you can clear an area on your desk and set it on its side facing you and then touch the desk instead of a monitor.
Post you r results when you can.

First experience:
There are two zones in front of the screen: further away is the "hover" zone, for aiming, when the screen shows a circle (the closer the finger, the smaller the circle), and closer in causes a mouse click. It's difficult for me to hold my hand steady in mid-air as I approach the "click point." I've got to practice quite a bit before I'll be confident using this in Sonar.
And just to confirm: I got this with the intent that it would substitute for a touch screen, since I use Windows 7, not Windows 8 (and I don't want to downgrade the quality of my monitor from my current 2560x1600 monitor to a 1900x1080 touch screen monitor).
