Arp Mysteriously Turns On in Spite of Automation

Hey!

I am working on a project that has a track where the arpeggiator comes on and off. No matter what I do, however, there is a place in the sequence where the arp comes on, in spite of any events record to make it do otherwise. I've looked at the event viewer and don't see anything happening, and there are envelopes drawn around the phrase that work normally. In this one mysterious location, the ARP insists on turning on.

Has anyone ever seen this before?

Thanks

I do not know if this applies, but here goes anyway:

I tore my hair out for quite a while a ways back, when a string preset in Kontakt kept changing to pizzicato, from its original.

I FINALLY figured out that there were things called 'Key Switches' in use for that particular preset, and whenever I hit a particular low note the sound would switch.  Sure enough, the note values used in that preset for the Key Switch Articulations were for some reason set up to be within the range of notes I frequently play when using that strings preset.

MY solution to the above was to save off that preset as a user preset, where I modified the note numbers of the Key Switches to be an additional octave lower, and that took care of the issue.

Since key switches can do lots of things, I am wondering if something like that is plaguing you.  Look for the presence of these Key Switch type of parameters for that particular preset for whatever synth that is.

Hope any of the above helps you figure this out,

Arp on/off automation in Sonar is buggy. It's as simple as that. For instance, I have found that it only works properly if the track in question is in focus (i.e. selected). It's a really weird bug that also applies to the automation of FX Chain on/off in the ProChannel. And when I first brought that up on the forum, someone from Cakewalk chimed in to say that it's an issue they can't fix because doing so would break other things. I wouldn't be surprised if the arp on/off automation bug is the same.

I got around it by bouncing arp sequences to MIDI clips instead of having the arp turned on. All you have to do is right click on the clip (with the arp turned on) and select "bounce to clip." Sonar will turn the arpeggiated sequence into MIDI notes and you can turn the arpeggiator off. I actually prefer this anyway, because you have more control over the arpeggiated stuff and can tweak patterns to your liking without being chained to a preset.
