Firepod vs Focusrite Scarlett

This is probably going to sound really nerdy, but just interested in thoughts of anyone familiar with both these units.  I just bought a new PC to rebuild a DAW.  I've had a Firepod for a number of years, never unhappy with it but at the same time had some nits about it.  Anyway, randomly found a good deal on a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 so picked it up, knowing I have a couple weeks to return it if desired.

Any thoughts on the sound of these two?  To my knowledge, Focusrite preamps have a good reputation of being pretty good sounding units.  Is this true in a lower end Scarlett 2i2?  How would it compare to a 5-6 year old Presonus Firepod?

Just wondering and could either return the Scarlett or eBay the Firepod.  Either way, making some music again is the main thing, so I'm sure I would be happy regardless.

Thanks for your input.

I have an 18i6 and as far as I know the 2i2 has the same mic pres. Mine sound excellent compared to my old Echo Layla IMO. I haven't used a Fire pod though and I know Pre Sonus makes some good stuff but from reviews or their pres vs. the Focusrite pres Focusrite wins. If you get a chance just do some tests with both and see what you like. I find my Scarlett is very clear and warm. It is also an extremely reliable interface. I have not had a single problem with it in the year I've had it. Again I don't know if that translates over to the 2i2.

That may not be helpful but there ya have it. Cheers.

Can only speak for the 2i2, but I own one and the Focusrite preamps are incredibly good for the price. I think the 2i2 has the benefits of using the same preamps as their high end, expensive models. I highly recommend it.  Just remember, the 2i2 has no midi in/outs.

Well, I tried to respond several times but I kept getting an error message from the forum.

Curious if there's any performance difference in using a midi-to-usb cable instead of a converter box/interface?  I'm only using a keyboard controller, so theoretically would be faster using a cable without an extra box connecting between them?
