How heavy projects are you running and what kind of VSTs do you use in them? What have you set your ASIO latency to? Your PC should manage decently if you don't run too many or too heavy VSTs.
Do you have other programs running in the background eating CPU?

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

I just started pluging my guitar and trying to record with it.
    No programs running aside.
sorry for my ignorance but I don't know what VSTs are, so I guess I'm not using any for now.
The ASIO latency says to be a 44khz stereo and I just changed from 23,2 msec to 92,9 msec, the ASIO buffer size is now set to 4096, now it lets me record and later crashes when I try to play it. the ASIO panel doesn't show the Mbox, although when I click advanced the Mbox 2 mini apears in peripherals. When I apply changing from fast to secure I check it later and it is set to fast again.
What options do I have left?
    maybe the installation is poor?
    thank you

Do you have M-audio selected for Playback and Recording timing Master in the Options dialogue? Also the I/O drivers should be M-Audios ASIO drivers. Make sure the PCs integrated sound card (Realtek or whatever) is not selected for anything in Options. You should be able to record with about 10 ms ASIO latency.

Are you plugging the guitar directly in the M-Audio? Are you using an amp simulator (like Guitar Rig=VST plugin)?
Guitar Rig can be quite CPU-consuming.

    everything seems ok
yes, the guitar is in the Mbox input
I don't believe I'm using any amp simulator

I just found an audacity copy with ASIO support so I'll be using that untill I get another copy of sonar 8 or so and see if it solves the problem
    thanks for your help
    farewell
