X2-Producer upgrade; academic version; X2a update; QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Hi, I have a few questions about the Producer upgrade.

I will be buying SONAR X2-Studio at the academic price from an academic vendor. I am also contemplating buying the $149 upgrade (summer sale) for X2-Studio to X2-Producer from the Cakewalk website. The summer sale makes it cheaper this way than buying Producer outright, even at academic pricing.

At the Cakewalk summer sale, the X2-Producer upgrade (SKU 10-CXSP2.00-20E) has the following option:
"Download for any SONAR Studio or SONAR 1-2 Customers, $149"

Question--Is this the correct upgrade if I wanted to upgrade to X2-Producer from X2-Studio? I'm confused by the description (I'm slow like that). When it says "SONAR 1-2 Customers," does it mean X1 & X2 customers?

More questions--Is the Academic version of X2-Studio upgradeable? Like, is it identical to the retail version, differing only in price structure? Or is it coded to disallow upgrades?

If it is upgradeable, how should I handle the X2a update? Do I install X2-Studio, then download & install the X2-Producer upgrade, THEN install the X2a update?

DAW/Video comp (still in tweaking phase): i7-4770K temporary OC @ 4.0GHz // MSI Z87 Mpower // 32GB RAM // 256GB Samsung SSD // 2TB WD HDD // ASUS GTX660Ti OC // SIIG FW // Focusrite Saffire Pro 14 // Win 8-Pro-64 // SONAR X2a

DAW2: Cakewalk Express 8.04 (from 1999) // XP on a P4 (Pentium. Remember those?) // Magix Music Maker 10 // M-Audio Delta 44

I got a definitive answer from Product Support, so I'm just passing this on in case it is useful to anyone else.
    • X2 Studio Academic is upgradeable.
    • For the X2 Studio to Producer upgrade, the option I listed in my original question is the correct one.
    • Since X2-Studio and X2-Producer are separate programs, the specific X2a update for each flavor would be installed separately. This was eye opening because originally, I thought the upgrade overwrites your existing installation, sort of how Windows overwrites your existing OS installation if you upgrade. But apparently Studio and Producer can coexist on the same machine.
