Midi Communications with Amplitube 3 plugin, non existent.

I use Amplitube 3 for all my guitar effects and use Kieth McMillen Instruments SoftStep midi controller to control my affects pedals. I have had this issue with Sonar 1X Producer and there has never been a fix for the plugin.  Earlier issues were with Korgs NanoPad2,  but this is a new situation.  I upgraded to Sonar X2 hoping that my problems would be resolved. However they have not been resolved.
 
Ok the situation is this.  Softstep requires a virtual midi port to communicate with external software.  At present I am using Midi Yoke and LoopMidi.  I can use softstep with Amplitube 3 standalone, however I cannot get them to communicate through the Amplitube 3 VST Plugin.  I have tried setting amplitube 3 up as a soft synth without any real luck. I went to softstep midi controller as it was more designed to handle the pressure of foot switch more than NanoPad2 could.
 
Sonar X2 does not recognise midiyoke at all, although Amplitube Standalone does. So I could not select Midiyoke as my midi input port.  However Sonar X2 did recognise my loopmidi port that I set up.  But however there were no communications being accepted neither when Amplitube was set up as an audio plugin and Soft Synth. I havent tried it with any other softsynth yet.  When I contacted ikmultimedia about this issue that said if it works with the standalone version then it should work with the amplitube 3 plugin and they told me to contact Cakewalk to find a solution. I have already spent several hundred dollars trying to get a midi controller that will work with Amplitube 3 and Sonar together.  Not even the pads on my Roland A300 Pro Midi Keyboard Controller would work.  So I am now asking the sonar community for help.
 
Is there anyone out there that uses Amplitube 3 with Sonar X2 successfully able to assist me with this issue, as it has caused some friction between me and my wife, as she feels I am waisting my time and money trying to sort this issue out.
