Error code?
I have recorded some backing tracks and saved them as .bun files. When I open them again they play OK and I add another track to them, and save that as a .bun file with a different name. IE: the backing tracks are named 'song.cwb' and the added track file is called 'song+new.cwb'. When Sonar tries to open the project and the 'song+new.cwb' file is loaded into Sonar, the 'loading audio data' bar at the bottom of the SONAR page looks like it's loading the file, but at the end of the load I get an error message: "unexpected error code hr:2147500037, file HRESULT: 3221225747" Does anyone know what that means? The file does not load, but the file is on the hard drive named as I saved it as a .cwb file. Thanks, Larry Robertson

Try right-clicking on the file name on the hard drive and selecting Open With>SONAR.

Thanks for the response 57Gregy. I tried it and it did not work. Right clicking on the file on the hard-drive did open Sonar, and Sonar tried to load the file, but at the end of the load I got the same message. I would like to hear from someone in Cakewalk tech support who can tell me what the error code means.

This is a user forum, it is unlikely that tech support will respond. A quick search for similar errors would suggest a problem with a plug-in. Try opening the project in safe-mode (hold the SHIFT key while opening the file) and load the plug-ins one at a time.

I did email customer support and did get a return email. They suggested I try another project, but error code comes up after loading on numerous files. They also stated they no longer support SONAR LE. I used to like working with SONAR until I had a computer crash & tried to load my backed up files to another computer. The other computer is loaded with Windows 7 not XP. Tyring to backup files from 2 locations on the hard drive is nuts (project & audio file are in different heirachys) and saving the projects as .cwb files gets me this error code and won't load the files, so what good is SONAR? I think I am going to switch to CUBASE. I want to make music, not work on computers. I no longer trust SONAR. Larry Robertson, Denver, CO

You should use Per Project Audio Folders-setting to have the project file and its audio in the same folder. I wouldn't be surprised if its practically the same in other DAWs. Bun-files are known to be vulnerable. Did you really use "+" in the file name, or is it just there for clarification? Such symbols might make the filename unusable. OTOH, I have used "+" in file names (in doc-files) in Windows without problems.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

PWBoogie: It could also absolutely have something to do with the fact that there are two [very] different Operating Systems in play here. First of all, I am not even sure if the LE version will run on Win7- so that could be an issue right off the bat. Do you know which LE version it is- there are a few of them (X1LE, 4LE, 6LE, 8.5LE). So right off the bat I'd be worried about compatibility with Win7. U Also PWBoogie, in searching around I found something similar that you should read: http://forum.cakewalk.com/unexpected-Error-code-m1375996.aspx That might be something. HTH, C/M

I'm having the same issue. One of my artist recorded on Sonar on Windows7. Sent me the "cwb" file and when I try and open the file I have the same error code. I've tried the right click stuff and also tried opening in Safe Mode by holding shift to take out any plug in's. All this and still not working. Does it have to do with something with it being Windows7 or what? Very frustrating, we are currently having to transfer his vocal files through mp3 tracks and lining them up due to this issue.

I cannot say for sure but given the dates in the thread linked above, the problem appears not be be SONAR version specific. A more reliable solution would be per-project audio folders. Projects can be zipped into a single file when necessary.

I have never seen a version of SONAR LE but there has been an option for years to store audio data with the project file. The feature is called "Per-project Audio." When a project is created, a new directory is created with the project name. The new project directory contains the project cwp file(s) and subdirectory to store the project audio called Audio. This way the entire project exists in a unique directory tree instead of the global audio folder. If the option exists in your version of SONAR it should exist in global options or preferences audio data settings.

Awesome, I'm currently using 4 but plan to get 8.5 which I've been reading bundles will work with this version and win7. I'm currently having to line up separate mp3 files of the vocals. Saving per project audio will carry all files over to the other PC as a bundle would you're saying?

A bundle is a single file made by appending the project file with the audio files. To create a single file from a project created with per-project audio, one would zip up the directory.

DON"T USE BUNDLE FILES-- there are way to many people reporting issues when trying to use CWB. Use CWP and all this will go away. And as said keep your audio folder in the project folder by checking all the correct file paths and boxes, which might be a little different in each version or other DAWS. I have both Sonar and Cubase working fine this way.

SONAR 8.5 hasn't been available for several years unless you can find it in a bargain bin somewhere... or maybe on Amazon.

So I found the "per project" check box in the global and checked the box to enable the feature. Now how do I take the CWP file as you all are stating and transfer that INCLUDING the audio files with it where it will play as if it was a bundle "meaning auto adjusts my tracks as I had them and applies volume settings and such"?? I do see now since I checked the "per project box" when I save my songs it puts the .wav tracks in my audio folder and I do now have my audio folder in my projects folder. I appreciate all the feedback btw! Not many forums I find are so quick to respond.. -Royce

if you want to create a single file from a project for backup or to send to someone, right-click the project folder and "Send To" compressed folder or use any archive tool you wish such as 7-zip, winzip etc.

And then if I unzip this file onto another PC that has sonar it should auto align my tracks in sonar as a bundle would?

I jus zipped the cwp file and then unzipped on another PC and still not working. Am I supposed to be zipping something else?

That is correct. The track, wave positions and midi info are all stored in the cwp. All the bundle process does is create a single file starting with the cwp and appending the wave files to it. There is nothing special about a bundle except that it is particularly fragile.

The cwp is not the project folder, you need to compress the entire folder that contains the cwp and the audio folder. The cwp only contains information about the project such as track layout, midi data, plug-in settings and audio file names. For example, if a project was created called Mysong it would create a directory called MySong which contains the MySong.cwp and a folder called Audio. To create a single file from the MySong project, zip up the MySong directory.

I will try this when I get home. All of my CWP files though go into a single folder therefore ALL the projects I've created are in the same "Project Folder". If I compress the folder that holds the CWP file i'm trying to get it'll also compress the rest of my CWP files from previous projects. Do I need to be saving this CWP including my audio folder in a separate folder from the rest of my projects before I zip it up?

Yes, unless you want to zip up all the other stuff too. FWIW, I have every project in a unique folder under "Cakewalk Projects". A project folder can contain several versions of the same project but I never have different projects mingled in the same folder. The "Save As" function the "Copy All Audio with Project" enabled can create a new folder with only the cwp file and it's associated audio saved to it. That new folder would be the one to zip up.
