It really is a small world

Every now and then, I will post a reply to a US-based newspaper or blog's Facebook status update, and some time later I will receive a notification that someone has replied to my comment....and it will also inform me that that person is a friend of someone I'm friends with back in the UK. Amazing isn't it? Just goes to show how small the world really is, and how few degrees of separation there are between us.

This isn't a case of a friend of mine seeing that I've written the comment, participating in the same thread and thus drawing attention to the thread among their friends. In this case, it was someone in New York replying to a comment I made on a New York Facebook page, who happened to be friends with someone I'm friends with in Newcastle. It's happened quite a few times before as well. Really makes me think about the "strangers" I interact with on the internet, and how it's quite possible they're closer to you than you think.

I've been in a music store and had someone recognize me from my avatar here in the CW forum.
