Trouble converting audio projects to Wav files

Hi all -

I'm using Sonar X2 Essential with Windows 7. Can't seem to export any audio to convert to a .wav file. I do the whole "select all" and "export audio" process. It looks like the audio is mixing down from the display status bar at the top of the screen. And the resulting file appears in the correct location but nothing plays - doesn't look like a viable file. Using 44.1 and 16 bit for conversion.   Also, it takes about 20 minutes for the "conversion" to complete.  It never took this long in Home Studio - not a very long track but there quite a few effects. Still, seems long to me.  Sometimes when I tried this in my many attempts, I end up with a file ending in .w64. I try to re-save as .wav but to no avail. I've tried both the .wav option and MS .wav option. Should I try saving to 24 bit? Do I need to select the 64bit engine option in the save box?

What am I missing??

Thanks.

I assume you have selected wav in the drop-down of the Export options.

    A few thoughts:
    •  If you are using external synths that are not recorded as audio and/or soft synths that are not frozen, you need to check INCLUDE LIVE AUDIO in the Export box or you won't get any sound.
    •  There is a quirk sometimes that select all doesn't actually select the tracks when you use SELECT ALL.  As a work-around, I control-click a few tracks first and then go to SELECT ALL.  I don't know why, but this seems to fix it.  Once in a while, I create a wav or mp3 and then find that the bass or another track didn't get included.
    • If the process is taking a long time, I wonder if you have something you don't know way out at the end of your track.  Selecting INCLUDE LIVE AUDIO, the process should take no longer than the length of the song, plus a few seconds of processing.  Maybe try this: After doing the SELECT ALL, put your cursor where you want the song to start and go to Edit | Select | From = Now.  Then put your cursor at the end of the song and go to Edit | Select | Thru = Now.  This will eliminate the possibility that you have an hour or something of blank space at the end of your project.
    • You can always try selecting a small section of a single track as a test.

What settings are you using for the export dialog?

Thanks so much, Konrad. Solved all issues - I think one of the track envelopes was extending ad infinitum. I remember the select function being a little sketchy so I just carefully selected each item on each track. PITA!!! Wish there was an easier way to select EVERYTHING.

Well, thanks for the help and the very clear instruction.

Tracy, I'm glad all is well.  I usually don't have to select tracks one by one, but sometimes Sonar just acts goofy and I have to resort to it.  Take care.

You don't need to select everything. Selecting nothing equals to selecting all. Then you just need to select the portion in the timeline to exclude the extended envelope tail. Mute the tracks you don't want to export.

You got a W64 file because you selected WAVE64 (Sony) instead of WAV (Microsoft).
