Cups (Remix 9-4-2013)
My niece came by again a few weeks back and was able to record her singing again. I had time to prepare something this time instead of using a backing track. I loathe backing tracks. She is hoping to get into Berklee, here in Boston, in the spring. When she's singing she'll do fine but she has no training whatsoever so she'll have trouble with the music part. In the meantime, hopefully, she's getting vocal and piano lessons. Jailene is singing I play the cup and everything else is soft synths. Cups (you're gonna miss me when I'm gone) Enjoy!

You gave her a good song to showcase her talent. She has good phrasing and a good ear, so I imagine she will thrive in music. Overall, this song is fun to listen to, and the mix is very nice on my speakers. Best of luck.

Robert, Nice job. If this is your niece's demo for acceptance she will have no problems getting accepted. Sounds really good overall and she has a nice voice. Berklee is a good experience, went there back in '86. Was a fun time, and they have some excellent instructors there.
Regards

She has a great quality to her voice. Very relaxed and natural singer. And not many songs have banjo in them, so that was a treat. The drums/percussion is an interesting choice. Nice recording.

Hi Robert, nice tune, very nice vocals. Not a fan of the "machine gun"drums, sorry. Rik

Thanks for checking it out. The vocals are as they are other than EQ, some compression and reverb. That snare bothers me too. I may rewrite it so it sounds better. I've been pretty busy lately but I might be able to squeeze it in.

Man, I love her voice! The music kept me in the song but her vocal is the centerpiece. Her vocals are unique and that girl should continue big time. You did good too, buddy!

A very contemporary voice for sure. The music seems to over power her voice a bit. Cool tune. Daryl

Thanks for all the nice words everyone. I've since remixed this but have not had the time to put it to master. I tried working on the drums but no luck. I'll try onw more thing and see what happens. It may be the roll parts need to be on the regular hit rather than the harder hit. IOW, the lower snare note. Thanks again!

Pretty voice. I agree with DC.... the music is a bit overpowering of her vocals... solve that by kicking her levels up a few db and I'd put a slight high end polish on her voice. Let it sparkle a bit. Loved this quirky version.

Thanks for the kind words guys! I hope she does well also. She's back in Kentucky, even though she grew up in Mass, and hopefully she is getting ready for college! Updated mix. I separated the strings so they sound better. Adjusted the snare so it's less machine gun'ish. Made it a little wider and beefed up the bottom end a bit. Cups (You're gonna miss me when I'm gone)
