Using NTONYX - Style Enhancer Micro 2.0 in Sonar X2 Producer

I have downloaded and installed NTONYX - Style Enhancer Micro 2.0 (SEM20) but cannot see the plugins in Sonar. Please can anyone shed any light? I am using Windows 7. The installation runs without complaining. I am using Build 106, because Build 107 refused to install. The rest of Sonar and other midi plug-ins seem to be working fine.
Many thanks. Sam

What OS are you using?  It sounds like you might not be running Windows 7 at SP1 or Windows 8, because X2a REQUIRES a minimum of Win 7 with Service Pack 1 in order to install, as it relies on a certain level of C++ libraries, and those only come into the picture once you have installed Service Pack 1 of WIndows 7, OR if you have Windows 8.

It may depend on which version of SONAR. NTONYX only recently started supporting 64bit SONAR with build 207 of SEM 2.0. I believe the demo version from their website is the same as what used to be bundled with SONAR.

Thanks Scook, and Bob
I first tried installing build 207 of SEM 2.0 but got the error message: "Unable to register the DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0X3". I tried this on two machines running Windows 7 with SP1 , and a third with Windows XP and Sonar Producer (10). I got the same message on all three. I contacted Ntonyx who kindly sent me a link to the previous version SEM26 build 106. This installs with no adverse message and puts all the dlls etc in a SEM folder under cakewalk. But when I run Sonar Producer, which I recently updated to X2a (I do have SP1 for Win 7) the SEM plug-in does not appear in the list. I have tried installing the SEM20 in various places, but it makes no difference. I am baffled! The rest of Sonar X2a (the bits I have tried) are all working fine.
Did you actually manage to get SEM20 working under Sonar X2a?
Many thanks  for the help and any further suggestions.

Yes both the demo and full version of SEM 2.0 build 207 installed properly on my Win 7 Home Premium SP1 running SONAR X2a 64bit. Since it is an MFX, the actual location of the files should not matter. On my machine, SEM is installed in "C:\Program Files\NTONYX\SEM20". I believe that is the default location. Did you run the installer as administrator?

After installing vst's you will need to add the folder they are in to the vst manager in X2 and then scan for the new plugs before you will see them.

Thanks Tom,
I am a bit baffled, does that mean that they are VST plug-ins? I thought that they were MFX and that that was a bit different. I will try again when I get home!

Thanks again Scook, Unfortunately I cannot get Build 207 to install at all! Build 106 tries to install under x86 program files but I redirected it to install under the "C:\Program Files\cakewalk" folder where the other plugins are.

Have you actually tried using the plug-in. If so do you find it effective?
Cheers

Yes I did run the Build 207 installer as administrator. I tried several ways but always got the same message.

Ah they are midi fx. Sorry I assumed they were vst. The other MFX are in the C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared MIDI Plugins folder. Try looking the the sonar plugins manager and you will get some hints about where the mfx are expected to be. I have not added any to my system so I hope this is useful.

Yes, I have used SEM 2.0 build 207 in SONAR X2a 64bit. I did not try any older build because, until build 207, the website specifically stated the plug-in did not work in 64bit SONAR. You could try manually registering the dll with regsvr32 after running the install. I believe the installer executes "regsvr32 SEM20x64.dll" as the last part of the install process so all of the files should be in place.

Hello again Scook and sorry to bother you.
Build 106 of SEM20, which NTONYX gave me, works fine in my old SONAR 8.5 running under XP (Not 64 bit), but as you suggested does not seem to work in 64 bit Sonar X2 under Win7.

Yo mentioned manually registering the dll with RegSrv32 and I have tried looking this up on line, but the help fom microsoft is way beyond me. I assume that I run the SEM20 Buld 207 istaller and when I get the warning message: "Unable to register the DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0X3" I should select the "Ignore" option (Not recommended) and then do the manual registration. If you have any helpful suggestions for how I do this bit, or can point me to a post which would help, I would be most grateful. At present I am transferring midi files to my laptop, applying SEM to them under XP and then transferring them back to my Win7 PC. OK, but cumbersome!

Again many thanks
Sam

There is something (maybe a virus scanner) preventing the installer from registering the plug-in. After running the installer and ignoring the Regsvr32 error message, manually register the plug-in. To do this,
Locate the SEM20x64.dll. The default directory is "C:\Program Files\NTONYX\SEM20".
As administrator run cmd.exe.
In the cmd window, change directories to where SEM20 is installed for example "cd \Program Files\NTONYX\SEM20".
Then register the plug-in by typing "regsvr32 SEM20x64.dll"

Dear Scook,
Thank you again for the help, and thank you for being so patient!
I just went to try out your suggestion and for some reason (best known to Mr Gates) the installer worked without any problem and now the demo version is working with Sonar X2 under Win 7.
Best wishes
Sam
