reverb tails issue - HELP.....
Hello...... Using X2 Producer 2a..... I'm mixing a project of audio tracks, and some tracks are using the Izotope Reverb or Lexicon Pantheon Reverb effects plug-ins. My issue is, when the song completes (get to the end of the audio tracks), the reverbs cut-off abruptly. Shouldn't the reverb tails continue to their end? Now, I did do a search for "reverb tails" in the forums (and Help), and found nothing helpful for this issue, and, I DO have the check-box on for "effects tails" somewhere in the preferences.... What's the fix for this? Please help ASAP...... TIA!
The Stuff: Sonar X2a Producer 64 AND 32-bit installed (!!!), jBridger, old-school analog VST synths, PC (AMD 4-core CPU @ 3.7GHz, 16GB RAM, SSD drive (32GB)), Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64, Lexicon Omega & EgoSys Waveterminal 192L audio interfaces, ART DI/O tube A/D/A converter-Tung Sol tube, Novation RemoteZero SL controller, Novation X-Synth, BOSS DR-660 drum mach., Mackie MR5 monitors, Focusrite VRM Box, AT M50 headphones... blah blah blah...

With that option enabled, you shouldn't have to do this, but are you allowing SONAR to continue playback past the end of the project? Meaning past the end of the last clip(s)? If that doesn't work, you can try slip-editing the ends of the clips past the actual end of the project to expose the silence at the end of the clips. This might also continue playing the fx tails, although again, you shouldn't need to do this. Not sure why that's happening... it's working fine here, but I'm not using those particular reverbs, so I haven't tested them. Scott -- Scott R. Hey Scott..... Wow, THANKS for the tips...... I simply dragged the end of those particular audio tracks out a bit, and, voila - reverb tails ending naturally! But yes, this shouldn't be an issue..... Thanks so much again for the help - you saved this track!

Those verb tails aren't missing! They are right there at the beginning next time you play the piece!

Yep, slipping out that last clip to make it longer is the quickest, easiest and cleanest. This works well for audio, midi or simple instrument tracks. One could also add a muted MIDI note (or something) past the tail's end, but that's a little clumsy and may require further rework. I don't think Sonar knows where audio actually is with respect to the project beginning and end points. It knows notes, timing and processing, but it may not have a feedback-check (i.e. handshake) for audio given to a plugin. Know what I mean? My hypothesis is that if it did, then Sonar's engine would have to wait until the reverb plugin handshakes back saying, "OK I'm done now. My internal barrel loop reports all zeros and my current audio output is negative infinity!" Actually, however, it seems that Sonar's engine basically gives the reverb plugin something to chew on, but it will cut it short if the timeline tells the engine to stop. EDIT: LOL, nice signature Jay Tee 4303! What's the 1980's cost on that system you got? Like $8,000?

Its been a while, but I do remember PC/XTs and Tandys in the $8k range. Seems like a straight PC listed $2 to $3k. No HD and 128k RAM. Prices came down, with a bump when the 8086 replaced the 8088, and then shot back up when the 80286 took over. (Somewhere I have a rare 80186, it came out of a printer I think) I got the PC at a Hamfest (search it, along with your city or county, you might get hooked) for $129. Ram, HD, mathco and CGI graphics probably set me back another $500 to $1000, and I wasn't buying COTS stuff at list, components werejust really expensive back then. I still have that box, and it should still boot. I have been thinking about MIDIing it up again, just for the pure hell of it, but I don't want to devote space to it, and man...using it would be sooo painful now. Cakewalk was running under DOS back then. No mouse support. Just about wore out the arrow and tab keys on the keyboard (which you really couldn't do, the IBM stuff was built like a TANK back then), and had to remember a bunch of text commands and shortcut keys. I think you are basically right on the audio engine and handoffs to plugins. Until I extend blank measures on a piece, the tails chop at song end, and are there waiting for me at the beginning of the next Play command, back at the start of the piece. With cans on, ( I monitor pretty loud), it can wake you up, even when you expect it!

Those were the good old day, eh? Is still have my Atari ST system, which had built-in MIDI ports. It still works perfectly too. I have it set up just for nostalgia, but I could easily connect up some of my old MIDI modules and do some composing. Scott -- Scott R. I loved my Atari st running cubase whatever version it was. Screen burn was so bad in my monitor it was hard to tell the difference between it being turned on or not! Worked great with my tascam 4 track and Quasar synth rack.

My Reverb tails are ALWAYS cut off when I export,so I have to create phantom clips at the end of EVERY project to let them be heard, and this doesn't always work that well,Iv'e just put it down to the quirks of this 2 year old dell XPS laptop, and X2. Yes I have the correct option selected in Preffs, doesn't seem to make any difference, also projects with lots[too many] plugins, almost never"Off Line" render properly, they end up as another file type in the place I select-usually just Music folder in W7. They mostly, but not always render fine if I select listen while renderring[well the slow way anyway]. Again,Iv'e just put up with it,as just another quirk,of wanting to use my laptop, instead of my desk.
