(SOLVED) Screenset templates query

I am well and truly having a brain fart!! I had a real useful template set up with all my screensets sorted out. I've recently wiped the PC, I backed up everything except my project template. Clanger!!

The problem I now have, I have 3 particular screensets which just show audio, MIDI and busses respectively. In the track pane (not console, I figured that out), how do I set it that any MIDI tracks added to screenset 1 (my main screenset which shows everything) does not appear on screenset 3 (which should be audio only). Busses is easy, I just move the window edge down out of sight.

But I just cannot remember how I rid all audio from one screenset and all MIDI from another.

Thanks in advance!

You need to hide the tracks. Press H for the Track Manager.

Thanks for the response. I did see that section of your book. Will that only hide tracks that are already created e.g

    I create :
    audio track 1
    audio track 2
    MIDI track 1
    MIDI track 2

I then hide MIDI track 1 and MIDI track 2. If I then create MIDI track 3, will that be hidden?

I'm sure I set it up last time that no MIDI would show in screenset (n) and no audio would show up in screenset (n+1).

I'll give track manager a whirl tomorrow.

    Thanks

    Hi Damien,

Yeah, you need to create the tracks first and any new tracks will need to be hidden.

Thanks for reading my book! I appreciate it.

Your book is superb, certainly the book that keeps on giving!!

That's not the hide I was on about though. This would allow me to automatically filter out all MIDI for 1 screenset, all audio for another, regardless of when the track was added. Similar to the same option in console view

As far as I know, there's no feature for the Track view similar to the one in the Console view.

I'm sure I set it up last time that no MIDI would show in screenset (n) and no audio would show up in screenset (n+1).

The only way I can think of is...

    1. Create two track folders in screenset (n) and name them "Audio" and "MIDI."
    2. Put all audio tracks into the Audio folder and all MIDI tracks into the MIDI folder.
    3. Collapse the MIDI folder and lock the screenset.
    4. Duplicate the screenset to screenset (n+1).
    5. Unlock the screenset (n+1), expand the MIDI folder and collapse the Audio folder, then re-lock the screenset.
    6. When you add an audio track in screenset (n), right-click on one of the existing audio tracks in the Audio folder and select "Insert Audio Track."
    7. When you add a MIDI track in screenset (n+1), do the same on one of the existing MIDI tracks.

Maybe this is what you used to do?

Not the way I did it before, however, certainly something I may use going forward, looks like the best option.

I'm sure I did it before, although I am starting to doubt myself now! Haha.

I've trawled through my SWA tutorials and the MCI ones on YouTube and cannot find it, which means I probably am making it up. But I'm so sure I had it created before.

The closest I've found it at 3:15 on this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvcZ9O4TeOw  it just doesn't make sense to have an Audio screenset and a MIDI screenset which aren't actually Audio or MIDI until you hide the other. And then keep hiding any tracks you add to keep the screenset true. Seems a lot of manual work.

You don't have any project created from that project template? What you used to do sounds like a miracle to me.

Btw I forgot to add that you can hide the MIDI folder itself in screenset (n) and the Audio folder itself in screenset (n+) if you like. But that would be a little inconvenient when you load a synth from the Browser because you'll have to drag its MIDI track into the MIDI folder in screenset (n+) and its audio track (synth track) into the Audio folder in screenset (n).

Unfortunately not, wiped the PC clean so lost everything.

Maybe it was just filtered in console view and not track view then. I've managed to convince myself of a new feature. Would be a neat addition anyway :)

Where can I find this option? I never use MIDI tracks in the console view so I hide all of them in all my screensets, but every time I add a MIDI track in one screenset I see it also appear in the console view of all other screensets.

Choose Strips > MIDI in the Console View menu and the appearance of MIDI tracks will be toggled off/on.

Apologies guys, I was completely making it up!! I scoured my external HD where I back everything up and managed to find an old project (the only one I didn't delete) and I had just created AUDIO and MIDI folder and hidden each folder in each respective screenset. What a kerfuffle! Thanks anyway guys, much appreciated :)

I'm at the daw now and just checked it, and it's really just "MIDI" so I never noticed the importance of the option. If it were like "Show/hide all MIDI tracks" I guess I would have noticed it earlier...

No problem. If you hadn't decided to start this thread I would still be switching screensets just to hide the newly added MIDI track from the console. So, I really thank you.
