Sidechain setting in Sonar X2

Hi everyone
from X1 till now i use Vintage channel 64 FX for sidechain in sonar but one thing i want to know is :
from a track i want to sidechain with kick sometimes i want it solo with sidechain (a sidechained Synth for Example)  i've tried to put some Kick and set the Gain envelope to 0 but
in that way i loose my sidechain effect!

I was playing around with this just this morning and I was using the compressor in Pro Channel sending my kick drum to a sub kick drum if you will that has a sustain fall out of bass on it.  When I did the side chain the beat sounded reversed is that because the kick is not as long as the sustained bass or do I need to eq and look at frequencies because maybe they are in the same range?  Here is a beginner side chain question, if I want the kick drum to lower the sustained bass I would put the compressor on the sustained bass and send the signal from the kick is that correct?

When you solo a sidechain target, causing the sidechain source to be muted, this defeats the sidechain effect. The workaround, as suggested by lawp above, is to set the sidechain send to pre-fader. This will assure that the sidechain signal will continue regardless of any solo/mute selections. An added advantage is that often a pre-fader send works better as a sidechain source because it doesn't go up and down in volume with volume automation.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
