Hard Drive Backup

I've been using the Thermaltake BlacX eSATA USB Docking Station for a few years now. Yesterday it stopped working & now need to replace it.
Any suggestions for similar or newer models out now that work better for backing up hard drives & files?

Rosewill RX- DU300 has worked well for me.

    Thanks John,

I'll check it out. It looks similar to the BlacX.

I haven't had much luck with Rosewill products.  I've had several, including a flakey case and have given up on them.

Rosewill is definitely a "bargain brand" meaning that cost is a primary consideration in design, and even more so with distribution strategy. On the other hand Thermaltake finds no problem charging a premium price for their equivalent products because of the brand reputation. And your Thermaltake unit (with no moving parts) failed after a couple of years. It should have lasted longer than you. For something like a backup drive caddy, which is not mission critical, cost may well be the best determinant, and brand  name often does not correlate closely with reliability.

I'm a home studio guy so my needs aren't as tremendous as a pro studio. With that said, I picked up a couple 4 TB drives from Best Buy for a couple hundred bucks. I use Acronis to back up my laptop and rotate on different backup sessions which of the 4 TBs I update. I actually also back up once in a while to some 2 TB drives. I've had external and internal drives fail before, so I'm happiest when I have several backups that re reasonably recent just in case of a calamity.

I actually had to restore my whole system from a backup drive with Acronis not that long ago after some sort of software weirdness made the machine act suspicious. I restored from Acronis. It was a snap.

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

    Home studio here too.
I backup & restore my DAW many times during the year using TB's+ Acronis. I do a copy of each onto 3 different hardives.
The DAW bu is about 25Gb & takes roughly 15 minutes per. Then I use other TB's to bu my samples & audio drives.
That's why I like using BlacX. I can swap the drives in /out instantly, pretty quick operation & no fails (until this unit itself went bad.)

I just found & purchased a couple of BlacX units for $23.00 each.

Quick look at Blacx and it is USB 2. Rosewell is USB 3... a lot faster.
Forgot to say, though. My first Rosewill  ate my hard drive. Pulled the HD out and 3 of the pins stayed stuck in the Rosewill. Didn't lose any data, backed up using an old system. Rosewill replaced the dock after I sent it in but wouldn't replace the hard drive. They said it must have been a faulty HD and I am the only case of that happening.

Many of these dock models look like they're built in the same factory.
I use eSata /  3Gbps on BlacX. It's pretty quick compared to some of the bu methods that were available in the past.

I use a 2TB Buffalo NAS (actually 2x2TB but I use mirrored raid so it's only 2TB). Recently one the drives went south. Popped it out, moved drive 2 to drive 1 bay and inserted new drive into dive 2 bay. By the next morning the mirroring was complete.

I just hope both drives don't ever go at once. I only have 64GB left of free space. I'd hate to lose all that data.
