New FREE MFX Plugins at TenCrazy.com

I haven't been keeping up with telling you folks about my latest releases, due to my day job load. Here are some toys!

** MFX Program Bump
Drago wrote to me asking if I could solve a problem for all those users out there without "Patch Change +/-" buttons on their controller keyboards (like his M-Audio Radium 61) for, as he put it, "what makes 'sound browsing' fast and easy." Y'know, that's a pretty good idea, one that I can use myself! So how 'bout we map some of the MIDI notes on your keyboard to these functions?

** MFX Autothrob
John Cain wrote to me asking if I could do an MFX that would give a drum-roll like functionality, as found on MPC units and drum machines of yore. Seeing as how this is a potentially dodgy proposition in SONAR as a real-time plug (thanks to an internal clock pulse that's far too long to be usable), I proposed that I could do something to this effect as a track insert effect. Moreover, I figured "why not allow the user to set any time interval to be usable on basslines and such?" Why not indeed!

Get 'em here!

Have fun,
- m

Hello, I recently discovered your mfx cc map and I liked it very much, very useful!
I use it in Sonar 6 on an xp windows. Now I tried to run it on windows 7 and I'm not getting. Could you tell me if it runs on windows 7 if yes, how do I get it to work? Thank you. Marcelo Pereira.

Wow, this thread is 9+ years old! :)

Anyway, I would guess that your problem is that you are using a 64-bit version of SONAR, and my old plugins are currently 32-bit only.

I've tried to get into contact with Cakewalk about getting a MFX SDK for 64-bit, or at least an example project that shows how they've done it themselves, but they have never responded to me in email of on the forums. :(

If anyone could help get work to Cakewalk developers that this would help us out, I would appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    - m

I use Sonar 6 32 bit just because the old plugins, I followed the instructions and copied the files to the folder: "Program Files(x86)/Cakewalk/Shared MIDI Plugins" and ran the .bat file. The message "DllRegisterServer in TcMfxCcMap.dll earned success", but the plugin does not appear in Sonar 6. Would have any solution for this? Thank you for your attention.

Hrm, if it says it registered with success, then maybe it's just in a place where you're not expecting it...

The plugin can show up either as simply the plugin name itself, *or* if you have several of my plugins, it will show as a separate 'TenCrazy.com' directory under the 'MIDI Fx...' menu.

Otherwise, also check the Cakewalk Plugin Manager under 'Tools'. Select the category for 'MIDI Effects (MFX)' and make sure 'TenCrazy.com CC Map' is under the Registered Plug-ins list.

I got! I kept the files and TcMfxCcMap.dll TcMfxCcMapReg.bat to the folder: Cakewalk\Shared MIDI
Plugins, then I made a copy of TcMfxCcMap.dll file to C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64. Then I opened the DOS Prompt (cmd) and typed C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\regsrv32.exe TcMfxCcMap.dll. After I ran as administrator the file TcMfxCcMapReg.bat in the folder Cakewalk\Shared MIDI Plugins. It worked! Thanks!

Markleford- I got a lot of use out of your MIDI plugins in the 32 bit world. Shame they don't work in 64 bit. When I get to a pc (iPhone now) later today I'll send a message to cake pointing them to this thread. I'll submit a feature request as well. I encourage anyone else to also let cake know they need to facilitate a way for 3rd party MFx developer to move their plugs to 64 bit.

Ah, thanks! It does seem that their contact methods are currently broken (for other devs as well, see: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2737740), and I haven't been in the beta program for years, so anyone who can get the word to someone on the inside would be greatly appreciated.

FYI - I submitted a feature request, and a problem report and also sent an email to Technical Support. I will report back here when I hear anything. Must be very frustrating as a developer to hit a wall like this.
Features like MFX (and CAL) are under-supported and it would be awesome if Cake would put in place the necessary support resources to stay on top of each of their features - (the infamous Staff-View also falls into this category.)
(I have very selfish reasons for this - I would love to be able to use some of Markleford's TenCrazy MFX effects that used to work so well in 32 bit versions of SONAR.)
As a minimum, I think a bit-bridge-esque wrapper for 32 bit MFX is needed. Ideal would be both a wrapper and a proper SDK so that 3rd party developers can develop 64 bit MFX for SONAR.
I am hopeful that other SONAR users can see the need/value of this effort and support it with their own requests to Cake.

Thanks, Brando. Hopefully we can figure this out: I'd love to at least get my MFX Sustain Fix back into the hands of 64-bit users!

I also wrote to Frank of Frank's MIDI Plug-Ins (http://www.midi-plugins.de/), who told me that he didn't have to do anything special to get his MFX working under 64-bit. He confirmed that there is no new SDK for 64-bit, and the old one is the only one to use (no other exists).

Right now I'm mostly suspecting old project compile settings that might be incompatible with the new compiler. I'll try to get to work on that soon.

Markleford - Dan said he was going to PM you with some contacts who could help you to resolve this. Have you heard from him? But I suspect you are right given that Frank did not have to do anything special to get his to work (I own his plugs also btw. But if I recall correctly I thought he had both a 32 bit version and a 64 bit version of the plugins(?) maybe I am mistaken as I installed them a long time ago - I'll check the installer files and his website for clues.) Good luck and definitely hope you get this sorted out.

I checked Frank's website and the two versions are separate downloads. The 32 bit plug is 26.5 mb and the 64 bit is 30.1 mb. Maybe the difference is just the installed file - but it sure seems like there is more going on than that.

No PM's yet, but it was just a weekend... ;)

Yes, the difference in Frank's plugins for each platform is just the .dll files. The source code is the same, but the compiler can target multiple platforms, each with a separate output files. So that's as it should be.

    For those still following along...

With the help of Colin Jamieson (over in the Dev forum: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2737740) and Frank of Frank's MIDI Plugins (http://www.midi-plugins.de/), we've managed to crack the biggest hurdle to getting this thing working!

So I'm happy to report that I've managed to get a 64-bit version of my TenCrazy.com MFX SustainFix working under the trial version of SONAR X2 Producer*. Colin and I are still considering how to ease the installation quirks for MFX under systems with UAC, but hopefully I should be able to start re-releasing the free stuff soon for 64-bit.

To that end, I'd like to ask: which MFX plugins should be ported first? I can imagine TenCrazy.com MFX SustainFix and MFX CC Map should be at the top of the list. After that it's kind of up for grabs: probably MFX PortDiag and MFX TrackDiag should be next, since they help people debug various problems with their controllers...

You could reply here, or email me, or you could try out my new @TenCrazy twitter feed (link in my signature). In the future, you can follow @TenCrazy to get the latest update announcements, as I'm really not sure the best place for me to post them on the Cakewalk forums, given that MFX should work in all Cakewalk hosts!

Anyway, that's the update. I should be able to get productive again Any Day Now, so chime in on what you'd like to see in the future.

    Cheers,
    - m

(* Yes, only the trial version of SONAR X2 Producer: I'm stuck back on SONAR 8.5 Producer, currently, as I fell off the Beta train a while back when I couldn't dedicate the time to testing. So if someone could help me out there, please consider hooking me up with a Developer NFR copy of the latest so that I can test under the latest version! Markleford - awesome news. Great that you have an option to accept donations now. I just came in to put my personal vote in for both Jambuddy and Acidspew which I always found to be a lot of fun back when I ran SONAR 32 bit versions.
Hope to see enough interest that this might lead to commercial offerings from yourself ( and maybe from Colin too?). Wouldn't mind seeing something new from Frank either.
I am off to leave a donation ($25. Unlikely to change your tax bracket) Thanks for the perseverance and glad to see your tencrazy plugs see the light in 64 bit form.

which MFX plugins should be ported first? I can imagine TenCrazy.com MFX SustainFix and MFX CC Map should be at the top of the list. After that it's kind of up for grabs: probably MFX PortDiag and MFX TrackDiag should be next
That sounds about right.  Track Doorman would be useful in X2.  Let's face it:  I've gotten good mileage out of Note Rotator, Velocity Releaser, Velocity to CC, and even Dynamic Hat.  It's hard to choose what would be next in that lineup.

And look at what Qunexus does with hardware very similar to Channel Switch.  Polyphonic pitch bend by switching per-note pitchbends from MIDI channel to MIDI channel over Omni.

You're familiar with some of my other 'dream' suggestions in the Developer's Forum thread.  I appreciate all of the renewed effort.
