Selection and control of multiple channels/faders/pots etc
Hi all, Am moving from other software to Sonar X1, and one of the most irritating things I've come across is my inability to find the correct way to control multiple things at once. Allow me to explain: Say I want to select all the vocals in a 32 track recording (which includes usual suspects like drums (8 channels/tracks), bass, multiple guitars, some keys, lead vocals and maybe 4 to 8 other vocal tracks for harmonies/scats etc). Sure, I've discovered that if the 6 tracks I want to select are "next to" each other in the view, I can drag the mouse across them and they will select. At which point, if I use CTRL and set something (well, SOME of the controls/selections) I can control all at once. But, what if they are NOT sequentially next to each other? How does one select then? I've tried SHIFT and CTRL and it doesn't seem to work. Also, I've found that many things CANNOT be set simultaneously. Say I just created 4 new audio tracks for (let's use vocals again), and I want to activate the SENDS on all of them, I cannot seem to click the plus once, and have all activate. I have to do it one-by-one. I've gone through the manual, and can't seem to find anything specifically on this feature/functionality. Any advice/tips from anyone?

The hotspot for track selection is the track number. SHIFT-click the track numbers will select a range of tracks. CTRL-click on track numbers will toggle select of a track without affects previously selected tracks. Once a group of tracks is defined, use the CTRL key will create a quick group or right-click to assign to a group. Sends can be created, assigned, enabled, disabled and deleted by quick grouping.

Ah, thanks. Yes, I see...I'm selecting the tracks on the track-number, BUT, in the console view. In the track view it does seem to work the way I expect. :-) Thanks. Also, you said one can create a groui p by using the CTRL buttong OR right-click to add to a group. I tried...cannot do this...where exactly should one right-click? Could you guide me with this? But, thus, when working in the console view (where one typically is busy when setting levels, muting, adding fx etc etc etc), you cannot do this in any way? Does this not seem like a VERY BASIC function that should be there? Now one has to switch to where the tracks are, "find/pick" the tracks in a vertical layout, while you've been "getting into the groove" with the horizontal console, and then move back to the console view to "do" whatever it is you intended to do. It does seem like a tedious workaround for something that should be "right there", doesn't it? Anyways, thanks for the advice here guys ;-) Cheers

Selecting tracks works the same in the console and views. The numbers at the bottom of the console view and upper left on the track view are the selection hotspots. Try right-clicking over the volume fader in the either the Control or Track view. You will see an option to assign it to a group. All the groups functions work the save in both views.

Ahhh....excellent...the group thing is available through the right-click on fader, yes. Nice, thanks. Yet, maybe there is a preferences setting that I have to change, but, for sure, without any doubt, the CTRL click on track-number in my console view definitely does not do the same as in the track view. In track view it acts as one would expect (as you have also explained), but, in console view, no matter what I do, if I click on the track number, it turns blue, but, no matter how (CTRL/SHIFT) I click on the next one, it releases the previous one and turns itself blue. In my console view I am only able to drag-select mutliple tracks, cannot seem to get CTRL to do what it should? Thanks so much for your help thus far.

Ok, lol...also, in my console view, the right-click to assign to group is also only for the channel that I right-clicked, not for all channels that are part of the selection. Again, maybe there's a preferences setting I am overlooking?

It works on single tracks or selections of tracks, just like quick groups.
