Problem with Sonar and Reaktor

There are some ensembles in Reaktor which involve working with samples, for example Beatslicer (in New Additions->Sample Player). Here, there is a bar above the sample window which shows the directory path of the sample being worked on, and to load a new sample you right click it and a menu appears enabling you to access a file picker. This works perfectly in standalone Reaktor. However, when I load Reaktor as a VSTi in Sonar, nothing happens when I right click on this bar. Therefore there is no way to load a sample. There are a few other ensembles which also require right clicking to load a sample, and it's the same deal: works fine in standalone, totally disabled in Sonar.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I use reaktor, I'll have to give it a try and see if it works.

I have not tried this, but what happens if you check that little keyboard picture at the top right of the synth window for Reaktor?  It is supposed to give all keystrokes to the plugin.  Maybe that would allow that particular functionality to be accessed.

Had me all excited for a minute there Bob...unfortunately it doesn't work. I'm wondering if the only way to work with these ensembles would be to load the sample in standalone mode, save it as a Reaktor preset and then load the preset in the DAW version.

That's a bummer.  Sorry I accidentally cheered you up.  :)

I have not worked with Reaktor presets of that nature, so have not encountered that sort of thing.  I have SOOOO many synths and presets I have never even listened to, it's amazing.  I have been chipping away at it though, previewing chunks of presets for various synths, and building a set of docs with the ones I like, so I can pull them up faster when I am looking for just that 'right' sound for a project.

I'm the same...had Reaktor for over a year now and there are so many of the library ensembles that I've just never tried, particular the sample manipulating ones, and I'm just starting to discover how cool many of them are.

Yeah - I LOVE Reaktor, I just get so wrapped up in some of the sounds that I never finish going through the rest of them.

Thanks for being the trail blazer here, and finding all the quicksand for me.  :)

These days we have access to so many different sounds, I doubt we'll ever get around to using them all. And of course, the endless possibilities available for making your own sounds...

I'm waiting for the day when I just hook my brain up to the DAW and think about a song and have it converted to digital automatically.

A month ot so ago I said: "Enough futzing, I'm concentrating on Reaktor for a year!" Still concentrating, it is one very powerful bit of software.

Re: Problem with Sonar and Reaktor 2013/09/04 15:38:14 (permalink)
    Sharke -
    I have Reaktor 5 - version 5.8.0.
Your problem appears to be a quirk in Beatslicer 2 -
I could get Beat Slicer 2 to load audio files in SONAR X2a by doing the following:
    1) In the (Reaktor) browser, click on "Disks" to browse the file system
    2) Navigate to a drive/directory file with an audio loop
    3) Drag the file from the browser to the beatslicer loop window
    4) At this point, if you right-click where you were trying previously, you should see a context windows come up with a right-click - Choose File, then navigate to the loop you want to open in BeatSlicer.
It seems to work here - although I don't think the initial drag attempt does anything except it seems to trigger something in Beatslicer that sets up the right-click option.
It's probably not the way it is intended to work, and there may be something else that enables this in the first place (rather than the drag) - I was just playing around to see if I could get it to load a loop by drag and drop and happened to see the right click menu option from then on.
    Hope this helps

hey guys. what dragging a file onto the ensemble does is toggle the edit mode in reaktor.  you can do this manually by clicking the button in the pic.  it's helpful to click the (i) button too that way you get tooltips.

Ahhh OK...I was introduced to Beatslicer by the Groove3 Reaktor tutorial, and the guy never mentioned the fact that you have to have edit mode enabled.
