Midi to usb Latency -please help

Hello, I apologize in advance if there is stuff posted about this already but I could not find anything.
 
I am using sonar x2. I am having a latency issues with soft synths and recording midi drum tracks live. I have a simmons sd7pk kit and for soft synth controller I use micro korg keyboard. My issue is that When I hook up these devices via midi to usb, I get a lag/latency problem when I try to play anything live with the recording. This is what happens.
I have guitar tracks laid out. Now I want to lay down some drum tracks. I connect my simmons kit Midi-usb direct into my computer. I open up session drummer and make sure my kit is triggering through session drummer. Everything is working fine but I get small latency at this point. Then I start to record, I press record and start to play drums against the track. That is where huge latency happens. Its not even close to being on. Is this because I am using midi-usb and not midi-midi? Or, are there any advanced options I should be made aware of that I am just not getting.
Its not only happens with my simmons kit but also my micro korg keyboard for using soft synths.
 
here are my settings:
 
Driver is WDM/KS
dithering is triangle
buffer size set to fast - 3.0 msec - 132 samples
buffer in playback Q - set to 2
sampling rate 44100
Ply back I/O buffer size set to 256 for both
I also make sure my devices are checked and accounted for.
 
Computer specs:
Intel I-5 processor
8 gigs ram
1tb hard drive
 
Someone please help as I am at a loss. thank you very much for your time-input-help.

Hi Vokalzz. First off, the Line6 ux2 is an external audio interface? If so, try switching to ASIO mode. Any reason to use WDM/KS mode?
 
If we must use WDM/KS, does Sonar report an effective latency in the preferences? If at 3.0ms, then that is quite fast and should not cause any noticeable latency, but perhaps your CPU is being taxed. Usually, a very low buffer setting will result in high-CPU load.
 
Also, in Preferences under Audio: Sync and Caching, look down at the bottom and see what the Record Latency Adjustment (Samples) is set to. Your device should be listed in the drop-down. If not, try selecting it. Since WDM/KS mode, there is not "reported latency" value, so try manually adjusting the offset. A little trial and error on this may bring your record latencies up to alignment with the rest of your live play.

Still having problems? How about adjusting the Full Chase Lock: Timing Offset value under the Sync and Caching section of the Preferences?

I think I figured it out. I think the midi drums being played out of my monitors causes a latency issue. I read somewhere that when midi devices are being played, the signal travels a long way before being converted into sound that then comes out your monitors. Then, when sound finally does come out of your monitors, it tends to cause latency. This is because it takes time for the sound to reach your ears. 10ms of latency for every foot away from the monitors. Something like that. So, I hook up the (headphone out) of my interface directly into the drum brain, then connected headphones to the drum brain so I can hear the entire mix while im playing. And..poof, the problem solved. No latency and spot on every time. Maybe you guys dont have issues when you play live right out of your monitors, but this seems to fix the issue, so that has me convinced that it could be my sound card. Maybe this is why pro studios spend thousands of dollars on mixing consoles. LOL.
