Tadpole Pond
I recorded this on my Martin. Two guitar tracks total. Each track has a direct in and a miked input. Added some strings from Kirk Hunter and a few violin/cello parts. Hope you enjoy! Comments welcome. https://soundcloud.com/starise/tadpole-pond

Hi Tim, nice meandering tune, not a fan of that cello(?). Maybe you could edit some of the string sqeaks out ? Rik

I like the guitar sound, mostly. Normally I am a fan of "leaving it in", but I personally think the string squeaks are just a little too much sometimes and could use a small bit of EQ to make them a bit less in your face. Nice work overall!

Tim, Nice guitar sound, reminds me of my Martin J65M when miked. The other strings sound alright to me. Some string slide, but not enough to ruin the piece, at least for me. Interest arrangement that holds your attention. I liked it. Peace and Blessings, John

You managed to get a nice open sound from the guitar. The cello didn't quite fit. In several places it was dissonant with the guitar, and the guitar part was very non-dissonant sounding. In some places the cello fit perfectly riding behind the guitars providing a connecting bridge..... especially towards the end.

I enjoyed this piece. I'm less bothered by the string squeaks than most because it adds authenticity to the part. However, you could slightly lower the volume of the strings, as they sometimes override the guitar. I'm a fan of creative dissonance, and was not bothered by that part of the arrangement. I've listened to too much Zappa, I guess.

absolutely LOVE this. the in your face strings are fine to me. you're rubbing up semi-tones nicely dissonant - kinda put me in a Zeppelin mode aka John Paul Jones mode. this is something i would listen to over and over again in my car. thanks for this little gem. i made some notes on your SC page :) - Daren

Well played. The dissonance didn't bother me and my tin ear. I liked the added texture and sustain of the cello. Works well under the guitar. If it was me I'd introduce the strings lower - both the vol and pitch. Me like. @

Really nicely done, Tim. I mellowed right out listening to it. I could take or leave some of the strings but that's a preference thing. The guitars were so pretty I could have survived on those. The strings didn't hurt, though, like I said just a preference.

This was excellent Starise! Personally the string squeaks were just fine with me. Love the sound of the guitars. Parts of it reminded me of a little Grateful Dead improv. Very peaceful, reflective song.

I didn't hear the original, before the strings were lowered - I found the strings to be TOO low in places, especially in the early parts, and on occasion even still too high - perhaps some volume automation would help. There were also times when the string part and guitar part really didn't fit together well at all. Just my preference, I think its better as guitar only. Guitar tone was great.

Rik- Thanks for your comments. I have to agree about the cello. It sounded artificial to me. I took it out completely. After this I think a second day listen before posting is always good. Notnat- This was not open tuned. Thanks for your comments. Champchas- Thank you ! Waltenstein- Thanks for listening. John- Those Martins are great guitars. I don't have a high end Martin but it sounds great. Thanks! Herb- Thanks for your ideas and comments. Steve- Thanks for listening. Lynn- I agree. I made the strings come out too much in the recording. I finally decided to scrap the strings altogether. As always I appreciate the listen! Daren- Thanks man. I really appreciate your observations here. Wookie-lol. AT- I seem to like dissonance and clash on occasion. I'm glad your ears didn't find it objectionable. Thanks so much for giving it a listen. Warren(Pug)- Hopefully I have come closer to the goal in this last mix. Thanks for your comments. Maybe my goal is dissonant relaxation with a squeak or two thrown in lol. Leadfoot- Thanks man! Ultrabra- I'll look closer at this. Thanks. Twisted6s- I appreciate the listen man! Maybe they should call me Mellow Yellow.
