4x VS-700R on one PC?

Hi,

I'm the new guy at the forum^^
I'm from Germany, so  excuse me for my bad english ;)

3 years ago i bought the VS-700R set. For my use the it's perfect.
Now i'm using a Soundtracs Topaz Project 8 32Ch Mixer to route the signal to the interface.
I'm routing the signal from the mixer via subgroups to the interface. But i want to use the Tape Outs from every Chanel.

Actually the VS-700R is for only 400€ to buy. Thats about 530$...
The Interfaces are new :)

Is it possible to run four VS-700R on one PC-System????

I know it is possible to run two interfaces.

What about the max. data transfer rate of usb 2.0?
Maybe I have to add some PCIe USB Card with USB Controller on it...

I also contacted the Roland Support. They couldn't help me out and started a request to Japan and the USA.

Thanks, for your answers...

Norman

Welcome Overdrive to the forums at Cakewalk.

I use a VS 100 so I can not answer your question.  Sorry.

However, I have a question for you.....where did you find the VS 700 for $530?.   I could use one. Thanks.

Win 10 Pro x64, 32Gb DDR3 ram, Sonar Platinum, Cubase 9.5, Mackie MCU Pro, Cakewalk VS 100, Roland Octa-Capture,  A 800 Pro, Carver M-1.5t amp & C4000 pre amp, various mics, drums and brass instruments.

    And away we go!

you could simply get two vs-700r with two adat 8ch preamps (presonus, focusrite, audient, etc)

If you want all the I/Os, use the focusrite octopre mkII dynamic. Or the Presonus Digimax FS, they both have 8 mic pres and the presonus is dirt cheap on ebay.

I don't think you'll be able to get 4 vs working togheter since just having two at the same time on usb is pretty rare. Normally ASIO allow only one audio device but Roland managed to "merge" two units so ASIO only see one unit.

I'm not sure about WDM, but the latency is a lot higher so not really awesome.

I would do 2x VS700r and two presonus FS (200-300 USD used) or focusrite octopre MKII dynamic  (800 USD new) both give 8ins w/pres -8outs via ADAT at 44.1khz/48khz.

This way your system will work flawlessly with fast ASIO drivers and will give you 32ins/44outs... ouch !

    that's the way to go.

i use the vs-700 with octopre mk II via ADAT (plus an octa-capture for additional I/O and headphone mixes) - plenty I/O and extra options ... and it works nicely :-)

i wouldn't do 4x vs-700R even if you'd figure out a way to get it to work - you'd have to mount it an a separate equipment room just because of 4x fan noise of the vs-700R :-(

    Thanks for your answers!

I actually using two VS-700R plus an older MOTU 2408 MK2 Via ADAT...
The vs-inputs are now connected to the mixer (tape out) on channel 1 - 16. The MOTU is connected to the mixers 8 subqroup- outs.
Now I can route every chanel that's not connected via tape out to one of the eight subgroup channels.

24 Inputs can be recorded simultaneously. It works pretty good.
I'm running both interfaces on the mainboards USB ports... I had some issues with an PCIe USB 3.0 Card. There we're som digital clicks on the record. but on the mainbord it works very well.

Does anyone of you know what about the wordclock sync for the two VS-700R? I#ve linked them with a bnc-cable like it is written in the manual but i don't what setup i have to do in sonar...

I didn't notice any problems with the latency. (Are the really some lantency losses???)

Yesterday the Cakewalk-support told me that it isn't possible to get more than one VS-700R on a PC to run.

The ADAT-solution seems to be the best compromise^^

PS: musicstore.com got the vs-700 for 530 bucks...

WHen you use two vs700-r you have to go in in the vs700r editor to assign the colck source to BNC on the second vs700r. Choose interrface "2" in the drop down menu to the left of the clock selection section.
