Using 8.5 with X2?

Hey all.. I have begun working on a new CD (FINALLY) and so far X2 has been amazing!! The workflow and the stability have been outstanding!!! HOWEVER, I do have a question...

I am getting ready to take on a side project/collaboration with another musician who has Sonar 8.5. Now I have 8.5 but NOT INSTALLED (I have bought every Sonar version since Sonar 7). I currently ONLY have X2 installed on my DAW.. and HE only has 8.5 and nothing more recent...  We are planning to write some stuff and send projects BACK AND FORTH via Drop Box or whatever to get a final product...

MY QUESTION is one of compatiblity (or alternatives). I know I would have little trouble opening up an 8.5 project in X2.. HOWEVER.. anything I do in X2 when saved.. will it "WORK" in 8.5? I haven't checked yet.. since I am not in my studio right now...  but does X2 have a "Save as" 8.5 or other format that could be made to work with 8.5 with a min of fuss?

Assuming NO to the above question.. IF I was to install my Sonar 8.5 to my DAW at this point in time.. as a separate program/directory... will it PEACEFULLY CO-EXIST with X2.. or will I have trouble with missing files, directory problems, VSTi problems, etc?? My DAW is a Win8 X64 setup and has ONLY seen X2 and whatever plugins I use with it.. I used all my previous versions of Sonar on a Win7 or earlier machines....

Thanks so much for your help. =)

It might work.  I have saved projects in X2 and opened them in Sonar 7.

Answer is yes, they can easily co-exist.  Just install Sonar 8.5 alone though, without any of the plugins or content.  If Sonar 8.5 does overwrite any X2 files, you will need to re-install X2 afterwards (unless you make a backup of all the relevant folders before you start).  Normally the earlier version of Sonar would be installed first.

I would post this question in the X version forum as well, There is more likely-hood of someone who has tried this.

But as said above, you can have every version of Sonar installed on the same computer. Each version creates it's own directory in the top layer of C drive.
The only few things that are really different are your Soft Synths and EFXs plug ins as well as the 64 bit versions of each.

MIDI is MIDI and is imbedded in the CWP file. This seems universal to all versions of Sonar.
I would think if your Project was made on X2 64 bit it will open on the same computer in 8.5 64 bit and even load the correct plug ins. The Plug ins seem to be shared.
