I made Sonar crash last night. My fault, I haven't done that in years...
On my system, if I go too long without saving as I am editing & mixing it will eventually overload & lock up from storing all the undo's etc. Well I screwed myself last night and only have myself to blame. I am mixing some tracks I recorded for a young band and I had to V-vocal almost all of the 3 vocal tracks to get them in key, I hit save with about 2 lines on the last of the 3 to go. I then Started the process of cleaning up & slip editing all the drum tracks, Then added all my Eq's and compression etc. for the drums (about an hour and half to 2 hours of work) having failed to remember to hit control S again. I then brought in the Bass & started tweaking it in.... Sounds great! Add the 1st guitar and BOOM! Audio drop out. Cakewalk is not responding.... For about 10 minutes..... and then, it was gone. All that work, lost! Start over. Finish the last few vocal edits & on to the drums, again... Sometimes I hate myself for making foolish mistakes like that.

It's very easy to get caught up in the moment while you're tweaking and making everything sound great. I've done it myself. It leaves you stunned in disbelief for a few minutes afterward. I feel your pain buddy.

I'm pretty good about hitting control-S all the time. I sometimes forget to hit shift-control-S when I would have liked too and then I don't have a practical way to backtrack if I think some work I did wasn't going in the right direction. best regards, mike

When that happens to me I call it a day or a night and turn it off and go do something else. It's pretty much a habit now to click save after the edits and every so often in the middle of edits..... I've had those heartbreaking crashes way to many times, losing everything since the last save, throughout the years of doing this.

I'm pretty good at hitting it too. But that's as a result of finding myself in Chuck's situation a couple times in the past. It's great incentive to getting into the practice!

It's easy to get caught up in the editing and let it go un-saved..... I have found myself in that situation more times than I can recount. Letting the editing go on for 30 to 60 minutes before realizing I haven't saved anything in quite some time. I do try to be diligent about saving as I work. And at the very first sign of the system exhibiting a quirk or acting unstable, I click SAVE, and then close the project and cold boot both the computer and the interface. No need to keep pushing on with a shaky OS. Take a few minutes to reboot, get a cold drink, stretch the legs, take a short break and let the system come back up stable.

I am usually very good about it too. I just got caught up in what I was doing. Crap happens. Bapu, Auto save is cool and would be cooler if it didn't piss me off every time I have to stop what I am doing to wait for it to do it's thing.
