This is a really beautiful sound library. And it is for a great cause too. Pay what you want for this. I am going to pay them the normal price because it is just so bloody amazing.I like Alchemy a lot. You can do a lot with it and it has real power behind it too.

All their libraries are superb and the variations with the mix pads alone are ridiculous. This instrument just sounds so good all the time. It is one of the few synths you actually really need.

    Highly recommended.

    +1 Jeff.

Every once in awhile, Camel has been doing these charitable events while attaching great sounding music libraries and it certainly makes a very good impression on me. I joined Camel Audio when Planet Earth was released with a "Pay what you want" system and thought wow, "these are good sounds and to boot, a company with a good cause"........I'm in.

I've been thinking of getting the full Alchemy and using it exclusively as as my only synth.  It's gorgeous and these days fewer choices = more creativity and efficiency.

You should go for it!! That's my go to synth.....a lot of the time I end up just playing around with the huge/PHAT sounds it produces and forget what I originally came to do. You can get some good deals (used) for Alchemy on KVR (when available) as the seller will (sometimes) throw in a few libraries with the sale. (I got mine that way). :)

One additional wrinkle here (picked up from KVR).  Evidently, if you pay at least $30 (or like amounts of pounds, euros) you get a bunch of extra water sounds - no extra presets that use them, but for use in roll-your-own presets.

I get out this soapbox every chance I get, because I love good documentation.  Alchemy has the best documentation of any synth I own.  It's comprehensive and clear, all the more remarkable because Alchemy is also one of the deepest instruments in my collection.  Bravo, Camel Audio!

I am rapidly becoming an Alchemy only type myself. I'll still use some of the older emulations (heck, I'll still use hardware if I am really motivated<G>), but Alchemy is so flexible that it is quickly replacing all the rest of my super-flexible modern software synthesizers.

Since every rule needs an exception, I still have not let go of Tassman... this came as a limited version with some very old version of Sonar - maybe 2 or 3. It was an awful pig, and yet you could tell there was something there... in between crashes<G>! I upgraded to the full version of Tassman 3 on a lark, and I now use Tassman 4 for a lot of sound design work.

The big difference, for me, is that I was able to jump in and create sounds in Alchemy almost immediately, while I still feel like a beginner with Tassman.

With respect to the Alchemy libraries, I have several, sadly I never seem to know about the sales, and it's tempting to low-ball them on this one, but I probably won't.

Unless there's another way to order the contribute amount+xtra preset info is right there in plain view when fill in your amount.

Looking at the current sales figures it seems to be doing quite well.

Re: Camel Audio- Alchemy | FRANK Water promo 2013/09/12 13:42:48 (permalink)
I have found with the rhythmical stuff in these libraries you can also get too carried away with how these sound designers have programmed these things too. If you are holding down a key too long and just getting into how those grooves are playing then that is nice and enjoyable but it is not so much about you then anymore.

I find you can get into the MixPads a lot and get onto much more subtle aspects to the groove. It is nice to turn these parts into audio and use them creatively in your own manner. I find after turning anything to audio you can do things like shift a part by an eighth note for example and everything sounds completely different again.

There are ways to play even the grooves in a very individual way so they end up sounding quite different to when you first find them. The more interesting the playing the more interesting the grooves end up coming out.

The one shot patches are the real key to how to use those sounds. Create your own grooves first in mind and build them yourself. That is when it sounds the most exciting to me anyway and comes alive. And like no other in terms of what you can get Alchemy to play.

The full version has the power obviously to be able to engage the original programming and be able to modify it to suit your own ideas more. It is interesting to reverse engineer how these sounds are created too, you certainly find a lot out about the synth in question. I am still surviving perfectly happily with Alchemy player only but I can see the real advantages of having the full version too. The player certainly allows massive amounts of sound modification as well. It has to be one of the best players out there and you can get into it and a very nice sound library for free too. Something nice that Camel have done for us. I have certainly spent a lot more and bought many of their libraries but they have all proved worthwhile for me anyway.
The DubStep library is pretty cool too. I had to get it for a project a client hired me for and use some DubStep bass sounds in there and they are wild to say the least. The grooves in that one are interesting too.  It is pretty hard in places but also lush and smooth too in the pads etc..Steamworx is also one of my faves. They all are actually. 'Water' is very nice though I must agree with everyone on that. It is so subtle in parts too. I love how some of the grooves sound right on the very first note.

Nothing - as Jeff pointed out above the free player is included. Perfectly usable. Be aware though It's like bait to lure you in to more sound sets and/or the full version of Alchemy. LOL.

Is the water by Frank water, a sound FX vst that only has water sounds or does it have sounds that i can actually make music with? I want it, but im afraid that it is only sound effects and not leads that i can actually make melodies with. please let me know.

Re: Camel Audio- Alchemy | FRANK Water promo 2013/09/15 17:40:36 (permalink)
It is definitely NOT a water sound effects library at all. The sounds are all very very musical and can be used a wide variety of situations such as leads, pads, textures etc and rhythmical grooves that are simply killer and very interesting to say the least.

The water aspect does make it's presence felt at times but the sounds are all very very musical indeed. They have just used water as a starting point in many cases to sculpt presets with and they have done it very well too.

For example there is a preset that uses an old dis used water tank that must have been very large in size and they are banging things around in this rather incredible environment. No water actually involved there at all but the relationship with water was the tank itself for example. So this is very percussive as you can imagine.

And the MixPads offer millions of variations on any of the sounds too don't forget.

Camel audio released this statement regarding the promo-

"We are very proud to announce the success of our Water Sound Library, in conjunction with FRANK Water.

Thanks to the generous and enthusiastic response of our thousands of Alchemy users, we have so far raised over 30,000 GBP, which will be used to help fund sustainable clean-water projects in developing countries.

Whilst the initial Pay-What-You-Want offer is finished, the Water library will continue to be sold at the regular fixed price of 59 USD / 49 EUR / 39 GBP, with 50% of all future sales donated to FRANK Water.
