So I was at Walmart and saw something shocking!
Couldn't have been more than a dozen people there who outweighed me by a factor of 3 or more. Lowest number ever!
In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

I couldn't find the defibrillators. But they did have lots of Halloween candy - so that people could buy it, eat it all, buy more next week, eat it all...

Yeah it's really odd to me. Though I hate it, I sort of get the Christmas thing in terms of it being a huge part of the yearly business. But do people really spend that much money on Halloween that every supermarket, drugstore and everywhere else need to put up huge displays 2 months early? When did it become a season? And can't we sort of ease out of summer instead of dropping it like a rock on Labor Day?

We drop by at Walmart once a week to grab a few things like kitty litter, stuff for the gym and such. Since my wife and I LOVE Halloween, we took the opportunity and started grabbing decorations this afternoon. And we'll probably be buying more a bit at a time, each time we go. I'm not much of a cheesy-off the rack decoration person, but they have plenty of things we can certainly use to create our own twisted décor... Walmart understand one thing - put it on display and people will buy things they'd never thought of buying when they walked in...

I still remember how much fun it was when a roommate I had dressed up as a scarecrow decoration and would lean up against the garage wall next to the path to the front door. He wouldn't move a muscle as the kids walked to the front door, but as they were leaving he would suddenly "come alive" and say something. Holy crap were the reactions funny, but not as good as when some "older boys" started to walk up to the house and one of them made a joke about the scarecrow and threw something at it. My roommate yelled "Hey!" and I'm guessing that kid dirtied his shorts - lol!

For 6 years running I designed elaborate costumes and with the help of my then wife constructed. I was: 1. A slice of toast with pat of drippipng butter on it 2. A divot with a tee stuck to it 3. A Fudge-cicle 4. First Base, I wore an L.A. Dodgers hat 5. A cutting room floor 6. A vibrator #1,2,3,4 & 6 were all either 4-5' wide or tall and typically covered my whole torso. In the case of the Fudge-cicle it came up about foot over my head and my face stuck out of it. My pats were "white" as that was the stick and they had drips of brown felt in the shape of ice cream drips. The cutting room floor was the simplest as it was just a bunck of VCR, cassette, 35mm film attached to my white clothes. Each had a tag attached to what it was. One was the deleted 5 minutes of "Truckin'" by the Grateful Dead. Another was the film of Marily Monreo singing Happy Birthday to JFK (in his private dressing room before the event). The vibrator better well be explanatory. I completely covered me from head to knees and I made a screen so I could sees out but it was difficult for any one to see me. It had a button on the front that triggered a buzzer. When people pressed it I jiggled.

The costume that worked best for me happened a long time ago when Revenge of the Nerds came out. I went all-out as a nerd and found (unlike being a nerd in real-life) that dressing up as a nerd back then made you a serious chick magnet. Yes, I DO have pictures and, when I can find them I'll scan a couple. It was such a crackup at the clubs we went to when some seriously cute lady goes "Oooo! It's a nerd!" I'd smile, turn to the side and take a squirt of Binaca breath spray, then I'd turn back and give a cheesy "Hi!" Man I was tempted to dress like that every weekend - hehe...

My best costume was for a party in a bar a few years ago - I went as Edward Scissorhands. My ex gf did an amazing job w/ the make up. I had people wanting to take pictures w/ me all night. Almost got me into trouble because there were a bunch of skinheads who weren't too happy to see their girls flirting w/ me. Fortunately, I had lots of big friends who took care of my happy-go-lucky drunk arse. Me, I never saw it happening...
