Neil Peart Drums

These are half-price at eSounds this weekend. I love the drum sounds on the Snakes & Arrows album, and this is purportedly that very kit, so I'm thinking of picking up the Kontakt version for $39.

However, my policy is to never buy anything I've not heard, regardless of price. So has anybody here recorded anything with them (either the Infinite Player, Session Drummer or BFD version) and can point me to a posted song? Or, for that matter, steer me clear of them because they didn't measure up?

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I bought the Session drummer version awhile back, but I haven't kept anything with them yet. The session drummer version is very limited with no room mics, but the kit sounds good. I had a drummer friend come over and check them out. I had him play them for a bit and then asked what he thought they were. After listening to a bunch of drummer talk (snore) he guessed DW. I also really like the sound of that S&A kit as well as the "Clockwork Angels" kit.
How long is the sale? I could record a quick little demo and send you a mp3.

I have the Infinity Player version but unfortunately I am traveling and can't make a demo. But here are a few observations,

Each drum is a seperate Kontakt instrument and the kits are multis so there is nothing cryptic about setting up multi outs in Kontakt. As there is a NKI for each kit peice its pretty easy to create your own kits, or just use one or two of the drums. To my ears at least the sound is very good, but do not expect Superior Drummer like control over the sound. The down side is This version is resource hungry.

Thanks for the observations, guys. The sale price is through the weekend, I think.

I'm aware of the limitations of Kontakt-based drums versus dedicated players such as Superior Drummer. I often use individual drum samples in Kontakt to augment Superior. It lets me get some significant kit variation without having to pay the high prices for SD2 expansions. Most often, it's the kick that I'm substituting/layering, and I prefer it bone-dry so no problem missing SD2's room mics.

But I'm also aware that Kontakt-based drums can sound really good, e.g. Steven Slate Drums. If the NP toms come close to that sound, I'd spend the 39 bucks just for that.

I paid $46 for the Session drummer version and I would do it again. After a Windows update last night my PC has taken a dump...so right now I'm testing my backup plan. I have the OS backed up to Paragon software and on an external drive from 11/24/2012. After I get about 12 plugins re-installed (including Neil Peart drums) I'll record a brief something so you can hear the basic kit. PM me your e-mail and I'll send a mp3 if you want...or just buy it! I think you'll like that 23" kick drum.

    I have the Kontakt/IP version....it's AWESOME!
But, as has been stated, the full kit is resource hungry..
But soundwise...it's awesome...I got it for $20 at the last
sale with my e-points.  Was happy to use them for this.

I bought them too (for Infinite Player) but I have yet to try them out.

Honestly I forgot all about them. Had to look up on my esoundz account to be sure. I was thinking I had the Session Drummer version then I remembered that the only expansion I ever bought for Session Drummer was the Andy Johns kit and I did not like that one.

Now I have to remember, when I get home tonight, to update my equipment list on my personal website as I don't have the NP set listed there.

I have $10 in my ePoints so I might just end up grabbing the Kontakt version.

Five cowbells. That could indeed be the deal-maker.

bapu, you are one pathetic gasoholic, dude. Here I am trying to justify a $39 purchase that you've already forgotten you'd previously made. You and yorolpal should form a self-help group.

The score so far: one "AWESOME", one "I think you'll like it" and several "haven't used it yet"s. Well, I've still got until Sunday. I appreciate the responses.

$39 for Neils custom built DW drums is a pretty good deal. After my computer ordeal I finally remembered how to install them into Session drummer again and played around with them a bit this morning. They really are a nice natural sounding kit. They are not over processed at all. I'm going to use them next song I think.

It's been quite a while since I shopped at esoundz.  I just looked and I've got $16 in ecredits.  So...can I apply them to this purchase and if so how do I do it??

(And is it a 12 gig download???)

It will probably come up when you go to check out. I checked mine, I have $1 . If I had a few more I may have got the BDF version but $38 is a bit much to pay for the same sound with a different workflow.
