Is it possible to record drums from the software instruments?
Hello,
I'm absolutely new to the forum and for the first time using Sonar X2 producer. Never used any
version of it before also.
I was thinking it will be as easy as Pro Tools or Garage Band, but looks to be much more
complicated to me.
I was trying to record the drums using the software instruments. I pulled the drums into the track area, pushed the record and play, but nothing recorded. Please help me to understand how to record the sofware drums.

You "pulled the drums to the track area" - what do you mean?? You dragged the MIDI loops on a MIDI track? Or you opened the drum synth GUI?
You don't actually record the ready made MIDI loops. You drag the MIDI loops on the MIDI track and that's it.
If you want to convert them to audio, you bounce to track of freeze the synth. AFAIK it's the same in all DAWs.
You can not record by clicking the drum icons, they are for auditioning only. If you want to record your own drum patterns, you use the Piano Roll or, more preferably, a MIDI keyboard or controller.

I will connect later the MIDI keyboard ( have ordered Roland A300 RPO).
What does the abriviation AFAIK mean?
Also, i have ordered Scott's book "SONAR POWER", so hopefully will recieve it and will go page by page...

That's definitely your best move. Scott's books are singularly awesome, well written and cover everything from the basics upwards.

Thank you for the replies. Recently I purchased the Roland A-PRO 300 in hope to start recording. But it doesn't work :( When i play on it there is no sound from the Roland Qua-Cupture sound card :( Any idea what to do to get it work? So far invested so much money into Roland's things in hope the everything will work well together... Where to start from? The "SONAR POWER" book is not arrived yet. I have no idea even how to record a single take

You start by doing the tutorials that came with X2. From what I am reading in your posts sounds like you need to start from the very beginning.
You will have to do a lot of footwork on your own. But when you get to a spot where your stuck,this forum will be here to help.
The book is definitely the right move. Start from the first page. If you need more, come back and ask more questions.
Do the tutorials. Then when you have questions from that come back here and ask. That way we have common ground to work with.

I think a lot of times programs seem harder because of lack of familiarity. Garage Band should be easier than Sonar because it is designed ot be an entry level tool. I doubt Pro Tools is necessarily easier than Sonar, but I have no doubt that Sonar will feel just as easy once you get used to it.

I can tell you that starting from scratch with recording software, as I did with Sonar X1, is a bit daunting, but you'll find lots of help here. As some have said, because Sonar is not 'entry level', the basics seemed to be the hardest to figure out, for me anyway, like 'dragging and dropping' a midi sample or loop onto a track. The gurus here are kind and understanding so ask away:)
